Stereotypes! Everyone knows them, and everyone assumes that they are true. Like Americans being loud and obnoxious (that's actually pretty true for a lot of us) or Germans being loud, angry, and really into strudels (Can be true but not always). We all know them.
However, they can be quite annoying. I don't know about you, but I'm not a carbon-copy of the bisexual stereotype. Here, let me just tell you how society looks at us.
Gay:
"Oh yaaassss Queen! Girl lemme tell you about this hookup I had last night, because hot damn was his butt cute! Girl, we need to have brunch sometime! I found this new vegan place that's LGBTQIAP friendly, and afterwards we can go shopping! Mm hold up girl, I also have this drag show on Friday you wanna come?"
Um. Sometimes this is true, but other times it is not. Not all gay men are promiscuous. Not all gay men are vegan and organic or whatever is cool these days. Not all gay men like shopping. Not all gay men are drag queens. And not all gay men are deep into the LGBTQ+ community. It just depends on the person. Gay people are normal people. Cool? Cool.
Lesbian:
"Hey, bro, let me just finish fixing this car and I'll get right back to you. I also have this softball game tomorrow if you want to come watch? I mean it's mostly a bunch of us looking to find dates but it's pretty cool. Ugh, men are just so gross. Also, I need to cut my hair into a shorter Pixi cut, because it's getting way too long. I'm also getting a new tattoo. I'm so hardcore and manly."
Also not true. Being a lesbian does not mean you are butch. It also doesn't mean you play softball. Not every lesbian thinks that men are disgusting pigs. Not all lesbians have short hair. Not all lesbians are hardcore and edgy. Lesbians are like normal people. There's a variety.
Bisexual:
"Yeah, hold up I've got two Tinder dates today and then some chick said she wants to do me later, too. Then we should go to this party, and I can do whatever I want because I'm on birth control! I also really love threesomes and orgies! I'm this way because my father left me and I can't stand commitment."
Ha. Ha. Ha. I'm actually pretty much the opposite for this one. Parties aren't cool, for me. Being promiscuous isn't my thing. Sex isn't on my mind. So yeah. This one has been broken by yours truly, because I'm a hermit crab that would rather buy a cake and eat it, than go to a party. So yeah, there's a variety of personalities.
Transgender/Transsexual:
"I'm only doing this for attention. I also really hate myself. Drag is also my biggest love in life."
Nein. Humans. Regular humans. Everyone is a regular human. Jesus Christ.
Pansexual:
"Yeah I'm like those bi people, except I also really like doing everyone. I'm constantly turned on. Seriously. Love me now."
It's a recurring theme. There's a variety of people, blah blah blah.
Asexual:
"Hey, um, guys, can we just be quiet? Oh, my knees are showing, better cover those up. Sex is gross. Relationships are disgusting. I'm actually jealous of everyone because I'm too ugly to have someone love me."
I'm sure you've guessed what I'm going to say by now. No.
The biggest lesson from this chapter is that everyone is just a human being, and don't stereotype people. If someone matches the stereotype, then cool. Whatever. If someone doesn't match the stereotype, also cool. Whatever.
I have said this is a past chapter, but do not assume everyone in a group of people has the same values and the same thoughts. Not every Christian is like the Westboro Baptist Church, not every Muslim is a terrorist, not every white person is obnoxious and privileged, not every Asian is really smart, and not everyone from Detroit will stab you. Calm down, people.
Everyone just needs to calm down and stop getting worked over about every little thing. Just be nice to everyone, especially to the people you hate, because those people hate it. Kill everyone with kindness until you are the lone survivor.
I'm kidding. Not really.
As always, if you have a suggestion, message me. You have a problem, I am here. You need help on your math homework, I can help BS your way through it. I'm joking. I've been joking a lot lately. I'm rambling, so goodbye!
Note: I only did the most well-known groups in the queer community. I do realize that. Don't ask me to make a chapter for the lesser-known groups, because those stereotypes don't exist yet.
