I pulled into the stadium's parking lot where the staff parks. Since my dad is the coach here we can park just about anywhere. All of us Izzo kids have our own keys to the stadium, that way our dad doesn't always have to let us in every time we have practice or something. I parked in the spot where it said "IZZO FAMILY ONLY," turned the engine off, grabbed my bag and headed in.
I took out my key as I was walking towards the door and that's when I felt my phone vibrate in my sweater pocket. It was Julie, my trainer, "Hey I'm so sorry, but I can't make it today. My mother just got rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery."
"Oh, alright. No, that's totally fine. I hope everything goes well. I'm already here, is there anything that you would like me to specifically work on?"
"Not that I can think of. Keep up the good work, squirt! Thank you for being flexible."
"No problem. Let me know if you need anything for the family! Best of luck!"
"Alright. Thank you, bye."
"Bye" After the phone call, I made my way to the court. Once I arrived there, I got a rack of balls out, turned on some music to shoot to and started to practice the way I was taught.
All of my emotions were just kind of all happening at once, but mainly my anger got to me. I cranked the music louder that way my thoughts would be drowned out. I just felt so angry at the world. How could it take my Papaw away from me? Why did he have to leave. Every time I went to shoot a basket, I'd miss and miss and miss. My anger was just getting in the way of my practicing and making it worse by the minute.
A few hours later, I was still practicing until my phone rang which, caught my attention. I didn't know who it would be since everyone knew that this was my practice time, and they know I don't like to be bothered during my practice time. I walked over and picked up my phone. It stopped ringing when I got there, so I went back to practicing.
Another hour went by with my sadness taking over. I kept running from one end of the court to the other trying to make jump shots. It was only a matter of time until my tears finally took over. I went to make one jump shot and twisted my ankle once I reached the floor. I cried so hard not only in sadness but with anger too. In a lot of pain, I made my way over to my belongings. Luckily the chairs were still out so I could sit down and prop my foot up. Water was very much needed at this point.
As I was basically chugging the water I heard voices coming towards my way. I turned the music down to listen to what is being said. Getting up as slowly as I could with my hurt ankle, I quietly started putting my things in my bag. I heard Kens' friends behind me and what sounded like Ethan and Grayson. I turned around just to see that I was correct. Kens was walking in front of them holding hands with Grayson? What the heck? They're dating or? Whatever I don't even care.
"Oh hey Kolbs" she sounded innocent like she meant to interrupt my time.
"Hi Kens" I'm kind of annoyed at this point
"What are you up to?"
"I was just leaving. Now." I grabbed my bag and keys, and started limping to the door hoping that I wouldn't get any attention towards my ankle.
"Oh so sad. Why?" She asked completely ignoring that I was hurt.
"My practice was interrupted and I need to go help plan Papaw's funeral anyway." I shrugged my shoulders and kept walking. Every step I took, I was holding back my tears from the pain along with what Kens did.
"Oh my gosh Kens, you didn't tell us Papaw died!" Kens' friends always acted like Papaw was theirs and it always bother me so much because he wasn't.
"Oh Kens, looks like you have some gossiping to do" I smirked sarcastically as I was walking away.
"Ha ha" she sneered at me
"Oh! Don't forget to lock up this time. I'm not taking the blame again."
"I won't, I won't, jeez" Slamming the door behind me, I couldn't control my annoyance for my sister. I pulled my keys out of my bag, unlocked the truck and got in it. At this point the pain was unbearable. My ankle was throbbing and swelling up so much. I just started bawling trying to start my truck with water falls in my eyes. Wiping my tears away, there's a figure that's walking towards my truck.
"I seem to always catch you while you're crying" Ethan lightly giggled.
"It's one of my many talents that I'm good at I guess" wiping away my tears, "But it doesn't help when I'm in pain either" I tried to make a joke out of it, but it hurt so bad I couldn't hold back.
"Aw don't say that, I'm sure it's not. Let me see the ankle." I opened the truck door and moved my foot out.
"I don't trust a lot of people with my injuries, you know." My nose was runny so it came out while I sniffled. I could finally catch my breath.
"Well, what's different now?" I could tell he was puzzled.
"As much as I don't want to say it, but there's something about you that calms me down and gives me comfort." My face started heating up. I knew I was blushing.
"I'm very happy that I can comfort you. And don't be ashamed of saying things like that, you never know what the other person feels" he winks at me and goes back to my foot, "It doesn't look broken or sprained, just bruised. Put some ice on it and keep it up, should get better in no time for you to walk on fully again." I slowly put my foot back into the truck.
"Well thank you, Dr. Dolan. Where were you when I broke my leg before?" I said jokingly
"I'm not sure. I'll have to come up with a reason a little later. So where are you going to go now?"
"I need to go home and clean up while I still have time, so I can go pick up my sister from the airport."
"Would you like some company? Or did you want some quality time with her?"
"I would absolutely love for you to come with me, but I need some time to catch up with my sister, if that's okay. I'm sorry. " I felt bad that I said no to him.
"It's okay, love. Maybe another time?"
"Yes, of course. I'll see you later." I smile.
"See you later-" he started to walk away.
"Ethan?" I didn't mean to interrupt him but I needed to say this.
"Yeah?"
"Thank you for everything. Ya know my ankle, dealing with my crying." I make myself give out a little giggle.
"I'll do whatever to make you happy again, Kolby." He smiled and started to walk away. My heart was racing at a hundred beats per minute. Was I seriously falling for Ethan Dolan?
Pulling out of the driveway I start to head home so I can shower. Kierston is suppose to fly in today so she can help with the funeral and I get the wonderful job of picking her up. It'll be so great to be the first person to get alone time with her.
