Chapter 38

Corki

"What are you doing?" Valerie asks.

"Nothing. He just dropped me off." I lie again, looking straight into the face of the girl who stole the one I loved. Ugh! Why do I keep lying today?! This will not be good on my records.

"Um... I live here too you know" Jared states.

"Oh yeah." I quickly sling my bag over my shoulder and walk quickly back to my room with her eyes following in glares.

With a sigh I put all my things on my bed. I look over to Sun hi and Jodi who are already fast asleep on their beds, not even bothering to change. Blech. That will just cause bed bugs. I need to change.

Alex

It was almost midnight when I woke up. I reached for my phone near the drawer and check for messages but Corki still hasn't replied.

I still don't know if Jared decided to bring her back to her dorm or to his-- i prefer the first choice. Still... I can't be sure.

"D.." I slowly poke my index finger to his hip, knowing it was his tickle spot.

Darmala started giggling sleepily as he  rubbed his eyes open, his arms stretched out as he sat up. "Good morn--"

"Shhh!" I quickly covered his mouth and pointed to a sleeping Linc.

"Wha? What time is it?" He looked at his phone for reference. "It's Midnig-" he started to shout but I covered it again before he whispered angrily to me "it's midnight?! Why are we up at midnight?! You better have a good explanation. Now my chi is all off"

"Oh shut up. So is mine."

"Okay. Now why wake me up in the middle of the night?" His face scrunched up like a moldy sack of prunes.

"Corki" This time his face softened and they no longer looked like prunes, more of a smooth grape now.

"Jared will bring her back Alex. Don't worry"

"I can't help it. She doesnt text me back and I can't call her"

"Well its midnight, maybe she's tired?"

"But Jared-"

"I don't think he would sacrifice his squirrel spirit just to kidnap Corki and make her fall in love with him again" Okay. He crushed my idea but that could happen!

"I just want to know..."

"So you want us to sneak out in the middle of the night, go to their dorm and check if she's there?"

"Um.. No. I was just going to call Jodi again if she's there but I wouldnt want to wake her and your idea sounds better" His mouth was hanging in disbelief.

Darmala

"Unbelievable" I face palmed myself. Why did I even say it out loud? I probably would have stayed in my bed now.

"You get to see Jodi too" He said and my eyes instantly perk up until I remember the pact I made.

"Thanks bro. But I promised Caleb. I still love her but I'm keeping myself in check"

"Okay. You still get to see her so let's go" He pulls my arm and we slowly roam the girls dorm until we find their room.

Alex twists the handle and finds that its locked. "Oh well. Let's go." I say but he pulls on my arm and urges me to pick lock their door knob.

"Nuh uh. That room probably has a billion alarms just waiting for me to trip"

"No way. Corki wouldn't be that paranoid"

"Yeah but his father might. Let's go Alex!"

He gives me the sigh and defeated look followed by a "thanks anyway" he knows that works on me and Jodi everytime he asks for a favor we don't want to give.

"Ughh. Fine!" I give in and start picking on the locks with a hair pin I store in my pajamas... Hey. You never know when you need to get out of somewhere.

Click. It sounds. Alex twisted the knob open and creepily tip toes to Corki's bed. As soon as he sees her asleep he tip toes back to me.

"Okay. Now we see her peaceful in her bed" But I was actually looking at Jodi which I shake off "Now let's go back"

Alex smiles. We close the door to keep it from being suspicious.

"Thanks man." He says as we hear footsteps coming towards us.

"Oh no. Hide!" We run through the hall, not wanting to get caught we hide to an open locker which was surprisingly nice smelling.

Quickly, Alex closes the locker before anyone else finds us in here.

"Ms. Chang's room is open" A deep male voice booms from the halls. That must be one of Corki's bodyguards.

"But there's no one here chief. Can we go back and sleep" Another tired sounding man says.

"No. We have to search the area"

"Fine!"

"We have to wait for them to go. We can't leave here until they do" Alex whispers as the guards disperse.

My eyes were only getting heavier every minute until such time I fell asleep.

Alex

"D!" I shout in Darmala's ear causing him to jump in shock which led to me and him bumping heads in the small locker we took shelter from.

I looked out the small space and saw that it was already bright out and some students were already roaming the halls. Okay really? No one hears the noise coming from the locker? Unbelievable.

"Help!" I squeal and I don't even care.

"Calm down Alex. I still have my pin remember" Oh that's right. He can pick locks.

"Right. Okay. Hurry up"

"Um..." He looks down at our feet. "I can't reach the pin"

"Oh. Um... wait" So we squabble around the small space until the locker opens itself with me and Darmala in an awkward position.

"Uh. Hi" says Darmala.

The locker was owned by a tall, coffee colored man who looked not surprised but confused to see us here.

"Okay. First it was too ladies. Now two men. I really don't know how you people fit or even get in my locker" He pulls us out of there and gets his books.

"Okay. That was awkward" I say.
