A simple melody
I heard a thousand times
was made of a timeless tune
and careful words that rhyme

I never really listened
To the lyrics or the rhythm
I never even got the chills
No, I never felt them

One day, tho, the sun came out
And lit up this childlike heart
Burning out the hollowness
Drowning out the dark

A spark within me burst
An old wish not forgotten
Lit like fireworks
My heart: enriched, enlightened

These ears of mine were opened
I now can hear the words
Swift as a flowing brook
Loud as a song of birds

My heart now sings with joy
And a love so sweet and comely
I can dance and sing and twirl
And feel the chorus around me swirl

Oh please don't let it go
This music, oh-so-pleasing
These words that fill me up
These lines of hope and meaning

I know they will not flee
No, they will not run
For this gladness isn't ending
It has just begun

Never will I let my ears, again
And this heart, so tender
Become so numb to a theme
That I can hardly remember

I'll always hold dear this ballad
This song of beauty and grace
And of love so fair and powerful
My ears will never erase.
