Masks

Some masks are pretty

Caring and sweet

Bright eyes and smiling mouths

We often greet

But often we don't see

What's underneath because

Masks can hide scars

To shameful to show

And some can hide loveliness

That's covering a glow

Some masks are gruesome

Terrible to behold

Yet behind it, is a face wanting to be loved

Some masks are confusing

And complex, no doubt

But if you get to know the wearer

You'll figure them out

That masks can be taken off

And they're real people there

Because underneath all masks

Are humans with burdens

Too heavy to bear.
