32. Divergent

I anxiously knocked on the door in front of me and sighed in relief as the familiar face appeared in front of me, eyes squeezed shut

"Why the fuck are you knocking on my door in the middle of the night?" Lisa growled and finally opened her eyes

"Sara? What are you doing here?" she asked

I took a deep breath

"I'm Divergent" I stated, my voice coming out loud and clear, echoing in the empty hall

Her eyes widened, her mouth fell agape

It didn't last long, though

She quickly looked around to see if anybody was there and then grabbed my wrist, pulling me inside her new apartment

She closed the door behind her as she came in front of me

"Are you crazy?" she yelled in my face

"What if somebody had heard you? You know what happens to-"

"Me and Eric are together. Have been together since initiation"

That seemed to definitely shut her up

She rubbed a hand on her face, trying to relieve the tension that characterized it at the moment

"Okay, I think I'm losing it. Why are you telling me this now?"

"Cade. He... Jumped, but not before making it obvious that he knew what I am."

"Cade the leader?"

I nodded

"Why didn't he, you know turn you in? And first of all, why didn't you tell me any of this earlier?" a hint of anger appeared on her face

"I...I was afraid of how you would react."

"So, you are Divergent"

"Yes. Amity and Dauntless"

She walked past me, and threw herself on her bed, groaning

That gave me time to look at my surroundings

Her place was warm and welcoming, messy, but still seeming like everything was in its place

"Look, I-"

She suddenly sat up, worried eyes fixed on mine

"I'm Erudite" she stated and looked down, biting her lip

"And Dauntless"

I felt my eyes widen at her words

I kneeled on the bed in front of her, grabbing her hands

"You're divergent too"

She slowly nodded

"I wanted to tell you. But I was so scared" she whispered

"It's fine" I reassured her, chuckling

"It's fine" I repeated, making her look down at me

"I can't believe you're divergent too. I mean, I always thought you were Dauntless with a capital D, you know" she quickly said and chuckled

"God, I can't believe it- I mean I can- but like-"

"Hey" I cut her off, trying to calm her down

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I wish I had. There were times in our initiation that I really needed someone to talk to...about this. I felt like I had to keep it a secret." I stated and sat next to her

"Didn't you like... talk about it with Eric? I mean you said you two were..."

I shook my head "Eric doesn't know."

She nodded, understanding

"So you aren't planning on telling him? And how did that even happen? I thought you hated the guy" she raised an eyebrow

"I thought I did, at the start. But then I got to know him and... I don't know. I just feel like he's so much more than he shows. "

"Well, does he at least make you happy?"

"Happy isn't the word I would choose. When I'm with him, I feel... Free. I know it sounds weird, but-"

"You don't need to explain yourself. I get it. You feel good when you're with him"

I nodded "Then I am happy for you. And kind of angry, might I add. Like, okay I understand you trying to hide the truth about you being divergent from me, but him? I thought you trusted me with this stuff"

"It was... complicated. We weren't supposed to-"

"So nobody knows?"

"Nobody knows anything yet. But Dana saw us one night. She never mentioned it ever again"

"Huh"

"Well, it does feel great to know that...I'm not alone in this. But you became a leader. Aren't you afraid that...you know, they will find out about you?"

I sighed and put a strand of hair behind my ear

"I'm being careful. At least I think I am."

"Be safe okay?" she asked and rested her head on my shoulder

"You too" I smiled, looking ahead of me

Lisa was the first person that came in my mind after what happened with Eric

I thought she would be angry, I thought she would yell at me, say that I didn't deserve first place

Instead, I found out something important about her

"I am going to keep us safe Lisa" I muttered

"That's reassuring, Leader Saraphine" she joked

I chuckled and stayed silent

"You know, I don't want to ruin the moment but, I am really tired"

"Oh, okay" I turned to look at her

"You can crash here if you want" she informed as she fell back

"Thanks, Lis" I stated and stood up, throwing a blanket over her "But I have something to do"

"Good Night"

"Night" I answered and opened the door, a smile forming my lips as I got out, closing it behind me
