29. Choice

Once we were all in the Pit and Max had made his speech, we were officially Dauntless members

The drinking and dancing started right after that

Some Dauntless members with smiles on their faces approached us and passed us a plastic cup each

I chuckled as Josh quickly drank it and groaned like it had literally burned his throat

A tall guy with long dark hair and brown eyes gave him a pat on the back and said "Something that will definitely make you guys drunk tonight. You deserve it." he then turned to Abbey and smirked

"You look like you could use some fun," he said and motioned for her to drink

"Do you wanna dance?" he asked as she drank 

She nodded and they left

"Who would've thought that Abbey dances?" Josh asked

I chuckled and looked down at my drink

"To no more simulations" I stated as the others repeated what I said and we all raised our cups

I drank the whole thing and turned to Lisa

I gave her a grin and mouthed "Flower", making her laugh

"Congratulations, you are now officially Dauntless members"

Eric and Max came to where we were

"As you all know, you have to choose your job tomorrow," Max stated

"But I would like to know Saraphine's answer tonight. It's a tradition that the person on top of the list chooses first. You know your options."

I looked at him and chuckled

"Well I..." I bit my lip and looked at the people around me

They all knew me as Saraphine

Would they think of me as someone else if I chose to become a leader?

Even if they did, did I really care?

I thought that being lower on the 'scale' would be better and easier for me to keep my divergence a secret

But I would be average

I didn't want an average life...

I wanted more

"Leader" I stated, a sudden confidence taking all over me

Max slightly raised an eyebrow but nodded in response

"You do know that being a leader is ore than just a title-"

"I know. And I think I can handle it"

He turned to look at Eric that kept a straight face and then back to me

"Well then, tomorrow your choice will be announced as well as the choices of the rest of the new members."

He looked at each one of our faces and in the end, extended his hand for me to shake

"I'm looking forward to working with you Saraphine"

I smiled and shook his hand

After that, he turned his back at us and walked away

"Can I speak with you for a moment?" Eric asked 

"Sure. See you later guys" I said and followed him outside

Once we were alone, he turned to look at me with a smirk

"What? You thought I'd choose to be a guard in the end?" I joked
