30. Leader

I was on my way to Max's office when Josh appeared next to me

He had a huge smile on his face since we had all chosen what we would do in Dauntless

He, along with Lisa and Addam, had decided to become 'officers'

It was a great job for the ones that wanted to be outside most of their time 

It also meant that I would probably not see them a lot

"Congrats again" he said as we walked

"Congratulation to you too." I said with a smile, turning to look at him

"So, are you going to Max's office?"

"Yeah. He told me to meet him and the rest of the leaders to talk about my responsibilities"

"Honestly, I don't see you as a leader"

I raised an eyebrow at him

"Sorry, that came out wrong. It's just...me and the others always thought you were more...independent. You never really cared about authority and-"

"It's something that I put a lot of thought in, Josh. I want to be able to do what I want but still 'help' people"

"And you couldn't do that as an instructor or something?"

"Are you saying that I shouldn't have chosen to be a leader?"

"I'm saying that you never seemed like the girl that craved power"

I stopped dead in my tracks to look at him

"Well then you don't know me that well, Josh" I spat

He sighed and stopped walking

"Hey, I didn't mean to-"

He extended his hand to touch mine, but I just brushed him off with a fake smile

"You know what, I really have to go."

There was so much on my mind that at the moment, I didn't even care that one of my friends thought that I was only taking the job because I thought I was better than the rest of them

"Wait, Sara-"

"I really hope you enjoy your new job." 

With that, I walked past him, heading to Max's office

As close as I was to his office, I became more and more anxious

What if they found out?

I sighed as I knocked on the heavy wooden door

Some seconds after, the door opened and Eric appeared in front of me

I waited for him to say something but instead, he took a step back, allowing me to walk in the office

I had never been there

Max's office was just like I was expecting it to be

Low lighting, black furniture, nothing making the room personal

Then again, it was Max's office

I walked in and took a look at the rest of the leaders

Six in total, Seven, including me

One after the other nodded in my direction

"Well, as you all know, Saraphine chose to become a leader." He turned to me "One of us will show you how it 'works' and what your responsibilities are. I just wanted you to be here so that you all know what is going to happen next"
