Waking up, I was expecting to be in a prison cell, but instead I sat up on king size bed, in a bright bedroom

I looked down surprised, realizing that I wasn't handcuffed anymore

The walls were painted a light blue color, and the room was lit up by a big window

I swore under my breath, and stood up, still feeling numb from the tranquilizer and walked to the window

I pushed aside the cream colored curtains that were covering it and tried to open it, with no luck

I looked around and spotted two doors

Running to one, I tried to open it, gaining nothing

I turned to the other one and opened it, revealing a big bathroom

"Shit," I muttered and spotted a chair at the side of the nightstand in the bedroom near a mirror I hadn't noticed before

I ran and grabbed the chair, throwing it at the window

Picking it up and doing it again and again for what seemed like an eternity

Nothing

Defeated, I let my knees fall to the ground, feeling my eyes water

No escape

//////////

Around nightfall, I was laying on the floor, knees up to me chest, when there was a click and the door opened, revealing Eric with a white box in his hands

I quickly stood up, not intending on showing him how tired and broken I felt

He looked at me and sighed, then walked inside, putting the box on the bed then returned to the door

I furrowed my eyebrows and walked to the bed hesitantly

I opened the box and held up a blue dress

"What is this?"

"Max said you don't deserve to be Dauntless anymore. But my mother...she accepts you as one of the Erudites. If you wear this, you can move on, have a normal life. Saraphine, this is your only chance for a future,"

I felt my eyes water again quickly brushed the tears off

"If you walk out this door wearing that, they will accept you,"

"Did you tell your mother I'm divergent?" I turned to look at him

"She can't know," he shook his head

More tears started falling down my cheeks

"I can't,"

"You can, you have to. You're strong, stronger than them, stronger than me. This is your only choice,"

"And if I don't?"

He stayed silent and I looked up at him

"I can't keep you alive otherwise," he stated

With my vision blurred from tears, I sat down on the bed, hugging my knees up to my chest

As I heard his footsteps coming closer to me I let out a sob

"Leave," I managed to make out and heard him stop

I layed down on the bed and soon after, I heard the door close

//////////

The next morning I woke up in the same position

I sat up and looked at the dress

With no more strength left in me, I stood up, slowly walking to the bathroom

I stripped off the dauntless uniform and let the warm water run in the shower

I glanced at myself in the bathroom mirror and the person looking back at me, I hardly recognized

Her eyes were puffy and blood-red from all the crying, her hair was tangled and oily, her body was thinner than ever, covered in bruises

I took one last look in the mirror and stepped into the shower, letting the warm water run down my body

She was a broken girl

And that girl was I

//////////

The soft material of the dress seemed unfamiliar to my skin, like some distant memory of comfort and safety

I looked at myself in the mirror and took a deep breath, even though it felt like I wasn't at all breathing

I put my hand on the doorknob and opened the door, stepping out of the room to come face to face with three Dauntless soldiers, their hands on their guns

They all looked down at the blue dress and dropped their hands to their sides

"Walk," one of them said, I recognized his face but didn't remember his name

Dauntless born, all of them

I followed them down the corridor and through a door that led to a big hall, filled with Erudites and Dauntless soldiers

Most Dauntless turned to look at me in surprise as I walked in, but no one said anything

I spotted Eric talking to Jeanine

We locked eyes and he started walking in my direction when a familiar face came into view

"Abbey?"

She moved closer to me and took my hand "I thought you were dead,"

I removed my hand from hers and took a step back

"You... went along with them?" I whispered

"I had no other choice,"

"You always have a choice," I furrowed my eyebrows

"Seems like you made the same choice I did" she raised an eyebrow

A bitter chuckle escaped my mouth as I looked at the blue stripe on her arm, then down at my dress

"Guess we both are traitors to our kind then," I stated and turned my back at her, not knowing where I was heading
