Akutagawa

I sat down holding my head in my hands. My heart was racing and my face heated.

How could I be so bold?!

I took a deep breath and scanned over the room. Yoko must've stayed outside. Perhaps I shocked her as much as I did myself.

I'm such a fool. We're different people now! It's not the same as before!

"Akutagawa-senpai?" A soft voice asked. I lifted my head to meet the gaze of Higuchi.

"What?"

She shifted the bag on her back and looked away.

"I'm leaving to start the mission. I'll keep in touch."

I nodded not bothering to watch her leave.

Wouldn't be the first time a woman walked out of my life.

I was growing soft. I had no room left in myself for pity, or remorse, or even fear. I was going to prove that. Nothing could break me.

After all, I'm already damaged beyond repair.

I glanced down at my hands. Just how many people have died because of me? How many more will? Do I care? Should I?

"I'm here for you." She whispered. Her hands were gently placed over mine. "We can carry this burden together, so you won't have to alone."

I looked up at her. Her eyes dull, how I wished for her to see the world for how it truly was.

"I don't know what you're talking about Tawada." I muttered standing up. She gave me an incredulous glare before walking behind me and sighing.

"Then you're the blind one here Ryu." Her voice cold and empty. I wanted to understand her, to see what she sees. I wanted to live in her footsteps even if only for a day.

"Perhaps."

In the death of night, everying goes dark. Things fade into the nothingness never to be found again.

I wanted to search the void for her broken pieces, maybe mine would be there with hers.

I froze when I felt her arms wrap around me.

"I hear their cries Ryu. I can hear you. I feel what you do. I've never felt so hollow before. Forgive me Ryu."
