Akutagawa

To have her back in my arms, felt like the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders. But Mori wouldn't have it that way. We stood in his office overlooking the city.

Fires burned in the distance. A frightening omen for what had yet to come. Yoko stared Mori in the eyes, determination and anger consuming her.

"You wanted me dead." She growled. He sighed closing his eyes.

"Yoko you have to see where I'm coming from. This all started with you. Every fight we battle is over you. I was simply tying up a loose end you see. But I realize that failed. I also realize that this is what some people call mutiny."

I held Yoko's hand tightly, feeling a slight tremble as she shifted uncomfortably.

"My life should be worth more to you. I'm a powerful asset. You've witnessed that over and over." She protested.

"Tawada my dear. Which is better? The dog that follows orders and keeps his head low, or the aggressive dog that bites its owner and constantly gets captured?"

The room fell into silence as we absorbed what he was saying. I hated that it made sense. The idea that no matter what we do Yoko is always going to be a bargaining chip.

"I've come up with an ultimatum. A few years ago, you went rogue and affiliated yourself with nobody. You successfully hid off the grid for quite some time."

"What are you suggesting Mori?" I threatened. My patience became dangerously low.

"Yoko, what if I were to temporarily cast you out from the Port Mafia?"

"Either the Guild or the Agency would find me and exploit me. You know that." She stated. He had a mischievous glint in his eye.

"Even if you hid like before? Not even our best trackers could find you then."

Yoko looked out the large glass window into the distance.

"Ethan Rivers."

Her gaze snapped up to meet his.

"He was an old acquaintance no? I think you work best as a mercenary my dear. Just look what you accomplished then."
