Akutagawa

A single gunshot too close for comfort. Time dragged on, air unbreathable. My legs couldn't push any faster. The rattling sound still echoing.

A single gunshot.

I felt something inside me die along with it's sound. I reached the edge of the docks. The moonlight reflected off of the water, a relaxing glow.

I dove into the water noticing it's faint red tint. My eyes stung from the salt but I swam deeper and deeper.

A body, so pale and lifeless. Eyes closed and muscles limp. I grabbed their hand and pulled all the way up to the surface.

The air stung both my skin and my lungs. But they weren't even breathing. I pulled their body up onto the concrete of the docks.

Her face, once so full of life was draining before my very eyes.

"Akutagawa!"

A few other people ran to my side, but it was all a blur. Everything was moving too fast. Soon she was taken from me, leaving me in shock where I sat.

I just listened to the sounds of the waves crashing. The allure of the water, meant to be as relaxing as drifting to sleep, now haunting me.

"Akutagawa?" A voice asked.

How much time has passed? How long have I been sitting here? How is she?

"Akutagawa would you like to come with me?" They questioned again. I looked up and met the fearful eyes of Higuchi. I nodded taking her hand to help me to my feet.

We sat in silence waiting. I wanted to see her, to know she was alright.

"You and Tawada are close?" Higuchi asked.

"Something like that." I muttered. My voice on the verge of breaking. I'd never felt so weak in my life. There was nothing I could do to help her.

It's all just a waiting game now.

We must continue on with our lives, while Yoko is hanging onto hers.
