Yoko
First day in Port MafiaI was scared at first, trembling from the malice surrounding me. I wanted to escape, to find somewhere safer.
Then I sensed compassion, nervousness, curiosity. He was slightly older than myself, yet the weight of the world on his shoulders. So broken, I wanted to glue the pieces back together.
But someone else stepped before me. Strong, authoritative, determined. He held a hand out to me with a wild grin.
"Welcome Yoko, to the Port Mafia."

I grew accustomed to the stares after a few hours. I was blind, a damaged child in a nest of killers. A sight some would pray to never witness.
But as I sat on the bed in my room I sensed that same tenderness waiting outside my door. Leaning against the wall, thinking.
We were mysteries to eachother. Each interested in the other's motives, their thoughts. We wanted to read eachother.
"I can't help you if you don't talk to me." I stated loud enough for him to hear me. My door creaked open in response.
The shadows of a small frame in my vision, he was tense. Nervous.
"M-My name is Akutagawa Ryunosuke." He stated.
"Yoko Tawada. Nice meeting you Ryu." I smiled. He seemed shocked at my nickname for him. Like such an action had never been performed for him.
"How come you joined the Port Mafia?" He questioned.
My fingers trailed up to a ring placed on a simple chain around my neck. A gift from a loved one, 'a good-luck charm' they claimed.
"I'm searching for my definition." I muttered.
He walked closer and examined the ring I was playing with. "Your definition? What does that mean?"
"In this world your actions define you. They determine your future and how you're treated by others."
He nodded absorbing every word I said.
"So tell me, what's your definition?"
