Akutagawa

"Did you really think I wasn't going to come with you? That hurts." Nakahara sighed following behind me.

"You heard Ougai. She's my responsibility."

The way he said it though made her seem like a possession rather than a person.

"She's my childhood friend Ryunosuke. We grew up in hell together. We survived. But tell me... just what exactly is Yoko to you?"

His words carved into me. The way Yoko and I had been to eachother recently, I understood his skepticism. But looking back, there was nothing stronger than what we had.

"I'll let you in on something you've blocked from your perception of reality. Shes been changing constantly. Most of that thanks to you. I'll acknowledge that. But it's also because of you that she's regressing to her state of when she lived in the slums."

That's impossible.

I understood the feeling growing up in a place like that. So I refused to accept what he was saying.

"Believe what you want, but right now, Yoko needs someone to lean on. She needs compassion not anger. So if she were to choose me over you... it's not something that just came out of the air. There's reasons for it."

I slammed my hand against the wall, the impact sending rubble crashing to the ground and blood sliding down the concrete.

"She wouldn't."

I didn't know if I was right or just trying to convinse myself I was. But when those words came out, it left as if I had lied through my teeth.

Chuuya stood in front of me with a blank expression.

"Your confidence knows no bounds Akutagawa. But just how oblivious can you be? Yoko Tawada did not just get kidnapped. You and I both know she's too strong for that."

He was right. Even when an army of men ambushed her, not a single soul survived. So just what was going on.

Where was she?

"Its actually sad how distraught you look." Her voice mumbled. We were just outside of mafia territory. A place where our cameras wouldn't reach.

And here she was. Not a scratch on her body but yet she looked so empty. As if someone had just carved her open and stole what gave her life.

"I brought him here as promised." Chuuya uttered.

"Thanks. You didn't need to scare him so much though. I actually feel bad now." She laughed.

"Well, let the news loose Yoko."

She gave me a sympathetic smile and grabbed my hand.

"The Guild is arriving tomorrow to claim the bounty on my head. I'm going to turn myself in."
