I'm still extending and editing past chapters, but I couldn't wait to upload this chapter. YAY!
I quietly made my way downstairs, sneaking past the small group that sat at the in the room parallel to the exit. They were busily typing things into their laptops, which seemed to be working. I casually opened the door as not to arouse suspicion, and stepped out, locking it behind me. The humidity was crazy, my once straight hair, started to frizz up and I could already feel the sweat on my neck. My gun was held down as I swiftly jogged down the street's pavement, staying in the shadows of the looming buildings above. I tried to focus on where I was going but my mind was aching with curiosity.
That dream, it was different from all the other dreams. Even though all of the visions or dreams I had were different, they were all linked up in some way or another. Majority of them had the same story-line with the same people and some were a little...off. But the last dream, separated itself from the others, like all the past ones were leading up to this, like this was the big break, the hidden message, a sign. But I couldn't decode it.
As I ventured further away from base, my senses started to tingle as I snapped back into reality and became alert, like I was being watched. I should go back, I shouldn't be so far, It'll be dark soon but maybe a little longer. My conscience was warning me but I really needed to think some things through and I didn't want to go back to the home of tension and stress... and Max. No, not yet.
And then I heard something. It was faint at first, but as the voice got closer, I heard the one word that made the hairs on my arms stand, "Alex!"
The voice was familiar, almost like I had heard it before... recently. It wasn't Max, or Will, or Connor, or Simon, it was a voice that I soon recognized, "Dylan?"
Tears ran down my face rapidly as I embraced my brother that I had thought dead. I couldn't control the sobs that escaped my lips as he hushed me calmly, rocking me in his arms. I was so full of joy that I almost forgot. I pulled away from the hug that consumed me, realizing that I hadn't looked at him properly. I looked at his eyes, hoping to god, that he wasn't. Shit. I raised my gun at him quickly and he backed up, with his arms up, "Alex, what are you doing?"
"Give me your gun"
"Alex?"
"I said give me your gun!" I yell as he drops the pistol and slides it over as I quickly pocket it,
"It's me, Al" he says, confused,
"No, it isn't," I tremble, as he stares at me concernedly, "You're one of them"
"Alex, if I was one of them, you would be dead by now. And would you really shoot your brother?"
I glared into his green eyes, "Your eyes weren't like this"
"I'm rogue. I escaped when something triggered, when I saw you"
And then it hit me like a ton of bricks, "You captured me that day when the rebels saved me?"
"Actually, my accomplice did. I drove. I knew your name but that didn't mean anything, when they came to get you, and I tried to run, I managed to get a glimpse of you and then memories just followed after that. And I just knew, I had to find you"
"I don't believe you," my gun still up,
"Are you dead?"
"No"
"Then you should"
"Where are we going?" he asks trailing behind me as I lead him back to base. What will Bek say if I bring back another mutant? What will everyone do? I stopped. No, he can't stay with us. He could be still working for Craig, he's probably here just so he can compromise our location then they can raid us. But where else? With the brothers? No, they might not take this lightly. This could spark major issues, this was very coincidental and sudden, I was skeptical.
"Why did we stop?" he asks stopping next to me,
"We need to find you a place to stay"
"Why can't I stay where you're staying?"
"Because, you're... that," I say gesturing at his eyes with two fingers,
"And...?"
"And they don't just let any lone mutants join the club kindly"
"What about Max Wilde?"
"How do you know about him?"
"Duh, because I'm 'this'," he says, pointing at an eye,
I turned back around to take a look at the possible hideouts.
"So where do I go?" he asks,
I thought for a while before saying, "I think I have an idea"
We walked into the half- wrecked building where Max had taken me the other day. This way I could keep an eye on him and he wouldn't be able to see me coming from base. I could bring him supplies the next day since the sun was already disappearing over the desolate skyline,
"Stay here. Don't come out. If you sense danger stay put and keep your gun close," I say, giving his gun back,
"I missed you, sis"
I felt a smile tug my mouth, "I..." I began, but sighed when I looked into his eyes, "...I have to go"
SO there you go! The beginning of a new twist. I would also like to address the changes I made to a few of the chapters. Max's last name has been changed to 'Wilde'... and might change again, sorry about that, 'Ross' was such a cringe name for him.
Another major change to the past chapters is the amount of words, I'm trying my best to make them each at least 700-800 words compared to 400, and I'm done with a few, not changing the story line but just adding more description and general detail. All this editing is just giving me more inspiration to write, and I have to contain myself from writing more chapters, and just get the editing over with. Don't worry I will be done soon and will carry on with the book. Don't forget to VOTE and COMMENT if you haven't already!
Thanks!
