"So Bek and the team are leaving at sundown and we have to leave before them? Its 4AM, do you think we'll have time to pack up and leave casually without him noticing?" I asked still unsure of the plan,

"We'll take the cars out from the garage and pack what we need. Max we have your suit, Alex, you said you already had something?" Connor asked,

I nodded.

"And Demi, Will, Dylan, here," Simon reached into a navy duffel-bag and pulled out all black kits, tossing a pair to each of them,

"Simon, won't they recognize our faces?" I ask,

"It's sorta like a masquerade, we have masks, don't worry, we have it all planned"

"Where did you get masks from?"

"Our insider has them ready for us. We'll meet her at a stop before the event"

"Who is this 'insider' you've been keeping from us?" Max says,

"I told you, you'll see"

"Now, what about food? Water?" Demi asks, folding her new uniform,

"Packed, everything is ready. All we need now is extra clothes and to make sure Bek knows you guys are heading out early, and to try stall his plan for another day or two," Simon says in a matter-of-fact way,

"And how do we do that?" Will asks warily,

"Well we've got the 'stalling' covered, but you guys will have to tell him you're leaving early"

"What do you mean you have the stalling covered?"

"We're going to blow up their cars. No big deal," Connor mentions casually, puffing on his cigarette,

"WHAT?!" I ask in disbelief,

Meanwhile Max laughs, "They have cars?"

"Yes they did, but Bek didn't tell anyone, in case one of you decides to take them and run," Simon adds,

"Makes sense"

I didn't have the energy to argue so I just went over to where Rodriguez and the group were resting,

"Are you guy ready?" I ask sitting down on the bench next to Cecille, the young redhead,

"Are you kidding me? Am I ready to die? Oh definitely," Rodriguez says sarcastically,

I nod silently. Everyone was hesitating, this was really risky, but the real reason for the need of Rod's team was just so they can fight off any mutant's in case it goes wrong, putting their lives in more danger than anyone else.

"Alex! Get over here," Connor calls,

I jog over and he hands Max and I a small container. I open it to reveal the green contacts sliding in the solution,

"I'm going to go pack," I say, turning to leave before anyone could stop me. This was real, this was happening, too late to back down now. Here goes. Alex, you have to do this.

I reached base feeling hot and dense. I softly shuffled up the stairs and into my room, locking the door behind me and drawing the curtains, leaving me in complete darkness. I lit the lantern that hung from the ceiling and pulled out the backpack from my closet, putting the red silk dress into it, along with the contacts, an extra pair of clothes and underwear and deodorant. I did this hastily, because my eyes started to create a blur, the tears welling up in my eyes. Being a girl scout or having a yellow belt in karate didn't prepare me for this. Nineteen years old and ready to fight for humanity. Not the story I had thought of growing up. I though I'd still be living in Washington, going to collage, taking care of my parents, having a life of my own, with my own family, kids, getting jobs, and living a long happy life. But things changed and shit happened and those dreams dissolved into nothingness.
