He was kissing me along my jaw, my neck, and finally my shoulder. I laughed as he kissed my collarbone, making me squirm from how ticklish I was. He lay next to me and flipped over so his gorgeous chest was on the mattress, his back exposed halfway, the rest covered with the white blanket. I traced my finger along his dragon tattoo that lived on his left shoulder. The whole time I didn't see his face, it seemed blurry, and I didn't know who it was. All I knew was that I felt uncontrollably happy.
I woke up. That dream... who was it? Max didn't have a tattoo. It wasn't him.
Breakfast was stale; the old nachos were dry and flavorless. I wasn't wearing the cap and Michael was glaring at me from the other end of the room. The bruise had almost completely faded but my skin still stung when I pressed it. I looked down at the sad excuse of Mexican food. Max walked in and his eyes immediately flicked to Michael. He reacted by getting up and leaving the room. I was glad Max was defending me, but I didn't need him to, especially after yesterday's fight.
Logan gets up, "Alright everyone, it's game time"
Everyone gets up and heads out, but Bek stops me, "Alex"
"Yes, Sir?"
"Oh please just call me Bek, 'Sir' makes me sound old"
"Will do, Bek. What can I do for you?"
"I need you go to the Triangle"
"The Triangle?"
"Yes, it's a group of apartments that are yet to be surveyed and Rodriguez is staying in today because he's not feeling so good. I want you to take his place"
"Me? By myself?"
"No, of course not! With Demi"
Great, just what I needed.
"I want you to bring back any survivors or anything that you might find useful'
"Got it"
I walked into the gun room and saw Demi lacing up her combat boots, "Oh, please, don't look at me like that. You think I want to work with you? Bek thinks we have trust issues and we need to stick together but if you mess up my mission, I will kill you"
"Fine by me"
"But If I could choose who to raid with..." She began looking over her shoulder at me, "...I would choose to go with Max"
"Good for you" I say in a whisper, rolling my eyes as I adjusted the knives in my belt,
But she didn't stop there, " Imagine being out in the field with him, and coming back to a long night of-"
"Wow, your idea of romance is...interesting. But good on you," I say sarcastically,
"Good on me?" She repeated,
"yeah, I'm glad you've found an interest to someone of the opposite sex"
"Are you calling me what I think you're calling me?" She hissed,
"Depends...are you?"
"I am not a lesbian. In fact last night, Max crawled straight into my bed, and oh, it was great"
"Well, congratulations! I hope you don't get mutant herpes" I said smiling, before walking out, leaving her confused.
He lied. To my face. I brushed it off and waited for Demi outside.
"Where's the triangle?" I asked, squinting through the sun,
"Just follow me, don't speak to me, don't ask me things, just obey like the bitch you are"
I wanted to pull out all her red hair one by one but instead I just shut my mouth ad followed her.
I held my AK47 close as I stood before the building I was supposed to check. The doors were almost falling off their hinges and the pipes that ran across the sides was rusted. I walked in, turning the torch on my gun on. Demi had already gone into the neighboring apartment and I had lost sight of her. "It's now or never" I said to myself, stepping through the doorway.
The first few rooms were empty. So far I had found a box of matches, a bottle of sleeping pills and a ripped up American flag. Nothing was of much use except for maybe the sleeping pills. I went into the next room. This one was bigger, probably a family room. Once I had made sure, no one was there, I explored every drawer in the house until I came to one of the chambers. I opened the door into what seemed to be a teenagers room. Much like mine except with a lot more pink on the walls. I opened the closet and found a round box. I bent down and opened it, revealing a silky material. I pulled it out and looked at the red dress in my hands. I stood up, holding it to me, a perfect fit. I remember the last time I wore a dress, two years ago, Christmas eve. I wore a dark green, sleeveless dress that ended above my knee. I had gotten it as a gift from my Aunt Maggie who had come for a visit. She died of a disease that hit her city during the takeover, from all the chemicals playing in the air.
I pushed the dress into my bag, not knowing what else to do with it, and walked out, shutting the door quietly.
