** 6 months later **
"Alex where the hell are my flash cards?" I yelled from our bedroom
"They're in your bag, down here!" He replied
"Of course they are" I mumbled to myself and rolled my eyes.
It's been 1 year since I started my internship and today was the biggest day yet. The boards. The most dreaded written exam in medical history. I had been studying for months but I felt like even years wouldn't be enough to know everything we have to know. I swiftly got dressed and made my way from our room out to the dining area of our apartment to see Alex sitting, waiting with breakfast for the two of us. I sat down across from him and began wolfing a slice of toast and downing my coffee as fast as I could. Alex stood up and made his way over to me, placing his hands on my shoulders and gently massaging my neck.
"Hey babe, don't worry ok." He said softly "If I could pass my boards anyone can" he gave a small laugh as he kissed me on the cheek
I stood up and turned to face him, wrapping my arms around his waist.
"I love you" I whispered
"I love you too, now go crush those boards" he replied sweetly as he placed his lips gently on mine
I picked up my keys and made my way down 2 flights of stairs, the elevator never worked, then strolled across the street to my car.
When I arrived at the hospital I made my way to the intern locker room and sat with the rest of my group while we changed into our scrubs.
"Patient checks in with high fever, marks on the skin and extreme flu like symptoms, soon perceives as hypertensive. What ails this patient of yours" Justin quizzes Cassie sarcastically
"Small Pox" she almost yells
"Yes" he sighs as she's right for the 500th time
"Have you guys been practicing all morning?" I laugh
"Some of us don't have attendings to help us along" Danny smiled sarcastically
"Oh sorry" I held my hands up in defence as I shot back an equally sarcastic smile
"Hey guys chill" Rose steps in with her soft, calming tone "come on, this is just one day, we can't fall out over this"
We all nodded in agreement and began to shuffle out of the locker room and headed towards the main entrance of the hospital to where Chief Webber was waiting for us on the stairs
"Alright interns, you can start on your morning rounds and then have half an hour to revise before going into your exam. You will have 2 hours to complete this exam and you will know your results in exactly one week from today. Good luck" Webber announced
We scattered throughout the hallways and I made my way over to the rotation board to see who's service I was on this week. I cursed to myself as I saw the name on the board. Dr Robbins.
I walked slowly towards the elevator and pressed number 5 to take me to the ped's floor. As I stood with my back against the wall, that night 6 months ago came flying back to me, which I tried my hardest to block out for quite some time now.

"Arizona, what are you....?" I began to speak in utter confusion but she cut me off
"Screw Alex" she whispered
Her soft lips soon attached to mine and I felt myself tense under her body but the more she kissed me the more I began to relax. I placed my hands on either side of her face and she began to deepen the kiss. I knew this was so wrong.

I shook my head at the thought of what happened. The morning after that I went to check on Arizona like I had said to her the night before. She apologised and we swore never to speak of it again. I decided not to tell Alex. Arizona was drunk and it was a huge mistake but if Alex found out he would flip. Since then I've tried my hardest to avoid Arizona, only making the bare minimum of conversation when it was needed, and that was only when we had a patient. I hated it really, I missed her bright smile and her infectious laugh, she always knew how to make the day better. But it was for the best.
The elevator came to a halt and I exited onto the paediatric floor. I walked towards the nurse's station and saw Arizona standing there.
"Morning Dr Robbins" I said politely as I picked up my tablet with the patient files
"Dr Quinn" Arizona nodded, barely acknowledging me
I decided that was my que to leave. I swiftly got through the morning's round of patients which left me with about 45 minutes to prep for my exam. Alex had the day off so he wasn't here to quiz me or wish me luck. I went back down to the Intern's area and found a seat in the corner of the locker room. I heard my phone go off and I removed it from my coat pocket.
*Don't screw this up babe x –Alex*
I scoffed at his reassuring message and placed my phone back into my coat pocket, returning to my notes. The rest of the interns soon flooded in to cram whatever they could in the time we had until the exams began...
We were soon filing into the exam room, taking a seat wherever we could. I placed three pencils, an eraser and a bottle of water in front of me on my desk. Once everyone was seated the examiner began handing out the exam papers and with that our 2 hours had begun.
The exam soon came to an end. I felt like I knew my stuff but I hoped I had done enough. Now the waiting game began. We made our way out of the exam room. Everyone was buzzing and the locker room was electric with people running around happy or totally pissed at the cards they were dealt.
"Hey Jamie are you coming to Joes to celebrate? Webber gave us the rest of the day off" Rose approached me, seeming very happy with herself
"Yeah sure!" I replied enthusiastically "I just have to go home and change, I'll meet you guys there"
I left the locker room before most and left the hospital, making my way across the parking lot towards my car. I drove home feeling pretty good about how I performed in the boards. Maybe Alex would come celebrate with me. The interns loved him. I arrived at our apartment block and took the 2 flights of stairs up to where we lived. Just as I was about to place the key in the door I could hear Alex's voice from outside the door and he wasn't alone.
"It's been a year! Of course I frickin' moved on. You decided to leave! That was your decision not mine!" I could hear him raise his voice in frustration
"I told you it was just for my fellowship and that I'd be back! Alex you knew I wanted to say yes, you knew we had a future but I needed to sort my shit out first while getting the education I needed." The woman's voice was sweet but her tone felt angry
"A year is a pretty long time Jo! How was I supposed to trust that you would even come back? Was I supposed to wait like a dog by the door until you came home?" Alex roared
"How could you trust me?" she questioned unbelievably "After everything Alex, seriously! We were supposed to get married and then you go and screw an intern!" she yelled
That was it. I had heard enough. I placed the key in the door and flung the door open as loudly as I could. The pair stood there in shock as they turned to face me. Alex's face going pale
"Hi" I smiled sarcastically at the woman in front of me "I'm the slutty intern. You must be Jo. Nice to meet you" I held out my hand to shake hers
