I'm Not Going Anywhere

"Jamie, you have to help me" Blake begged as he coughed up more blood

"Everyone, give us the room please" I said as I tried to hold back the panic

The room soon cleared and I walked over towards Blake and sat on the bed beside him.

"Blake just calm down ok" I said soothingly as I rubbed his back "Just take a breath ok. I'll get you ready to run some tests" I said as I placed my head on his shoulder like I used to when I was younger

"J you need to make this stop" he coughed as he took his deep breathes

"Hey I'm going to do everything I can ok! I'm not going anywhere" I hushed as I raised my head from his shoulder

He lay his head back against the pillow and I took the dish of blood from him and placed a clean one beside him just in case he started up again.

"I'm just gonna talk to the other doctors and then go call upstairs to book your scans. I'll be right back" I smiled as I stood at the frame of the door

"Ok" he breathed as he closed his eyes and tried to calm down

I stepped quietly outside and saw Meredith and Maggie waiting for me.

"We have his scans booked, I'll take him up in a few minutes" Meredith said softly

"I'm coming with you" I mumbled as I opened Blake's patient file on the tablet

"Jamie" Meredith gave me the look

"Don't Jamie me Mer, he's my big brother and he's scared. Nothing scares him! There's something seriously wrong and I am not leaving his side" I said fiercely

"Jamie, you know the rules. Dr Webber would not allow this to happen" Maggie said softly

"Do you think I care about Dr Webber right now?" I spat "That's my brother in there and I am not letting him face this alone" I gritted my teeth

A silence fell between us as the tension grew, before footsteps furiously making their way up the hall cut through the quiet.

"Jamie Grace Quinn! Why didn't you call me the minute Blake got here?" I heard the familiar voice thundering up the hall

"Hey Dad" I mumbled "I was a little busy taking care of your son" I said sarcastically

"Ok no need for the sarcasm young lady! Where is he?" He raised his eyebrows as he scolded me

"We're just going to head up to radiology. I'll see you up there" Meredith said softly as she rubbed my shoulder

I gave a small smile and turned my attention back to my father as Meredith and Maggie walked away.

"He's just in there" I said pointing to Blake's room. "Dad don't get loud with him ok, he's shook up and we need him to relax. I'll be taking him up for some tests in a minute"

My father simply nodded at my request as he silently entered Blake's room. I watched on as my dad approached Blake and hugged him tightly. They sat silently, Blake in the bed and my Dad on the chair in the corner of the room.

"Dr Quinn, they're ready for you upstairs" One of the nurses snapped me out of my thoughts

"Thanks Julie" I said quietly as I made my way into the room

"Hey Blake we're gonna take you upstairs now ok? Dad you can stay here or come upstairs if you like" I informed them

"I'll come" my Dad replied

I called for one of the nurses to help me with the gurney as we wheeled Blake out of the room and down the hall to the elevator that took us up to radiology. Blake stood up from the bed and walked with me as I supported his arm. He lay onto the bed that slid into the MRI machine and took a deep breath.

"This will only take a couple of minutes alright?" I said as I squeezed his hand "I'll be right back" I whispered and then left the room

I walked into the computer room and stood behind Meredith and Maggie who sat at the computer awaiting the results. We all waited silently. Each of us almost afraid to breath. The computer started loading and soon enough the results were clear

"my god" Maggie whispered as she raised her hand to cover her mouth

I felt my body stiffen and my heart began to race as I stared at the scans in front of me. Cancer. Everywhere. His whole body just lit up like a Christmas tree. His heart, liver and lungs just covered in mets.

"Jamie, I-I'm so" Meredith began as she stood up to embrace me

"No" I raised my voice as I backed away "Don't touch me"

I closed my eyes and pinched the bridge of my nose, taking deep breaths while trying to compose myself.

"Take Blake out of there and bring him back to his room. Don't tell him anything, just say it'll take a while for the tests to come through. I'll talk to my father." I mumbled as I turned my back to them and left the room

"Jamie where are they taking Blake?" my father approached me in a panic

"They're just taking him back downstairs Dad" I tried to calm him "Why don't we take a seat here for a bit while they settle him"

I sat down beside my dad on some cold metal chairs opposite the radiology room and I composed myself for a moment before opening my mouth.

"Dad" I started

"It's bad isn't it? I knew the minute I saw him, my son is sick isn't he?" he choked before I could even say anything

"Yeah" I could feel the tears now "It's pretty bad. It's cancer and it's spread everywhere Dad" My bottom lip quivered

My father hung his head and grabbed my hand giving it a gentle squeeze in support. We sat in silence, trying to comprehend everything that was going on.

"Jamie?" I heard a familiar voice call breathlessly from behind

I shot up from my chair and turned quickly to see the familiar face.

"Arizona! What are you doing here? You shouldn't have left Sofia" I spluttered as I tried to hide my watery eyes

"Meredith called and said you needed me here. What's going on?" She asked concerned

I heard my Dad cough from behind me. I almost forgot he was standing there.

"Oh uh, Dad" I started as I turned back to face him "This is Dr Arizona Robbins" I smiled as I grabbed her hand and brought her closer to me "Arizona is my girlfriend Dad"

"Arizona this is my father. Jack Quinn" I smiled

My father smiled and held out his hand to shake Arizona's.

"Your girlfriend?" My dad raised his eyebrows as he stood back from the hand shake

"Yeah, we uh, we've been dating for 6 months" I said as I fixed my eyes on Arizona

"How come you never told me? I would've liked to meet this lovely lady a lot sooner" my Dad said as he turned on the charm

"How about you go check on Blake, Dad" I gave a smile

He nodded. Realizing I was asking him to give Arizona and I some space. I stood there for a moment and silence fell around us as my Dad walked off.

"What's going on?" Arizona broke the silence

I was about to explain everything, when the whole ordeal became too much to bare and I threw myself into Arizona's arms and broke down.

"Hey, hey Jamie it's ok." she whispered as she stroked the back of my head

"My-my-my brother" I cried "he-he's dying Arizona" I stuttered as my shoulders heaved with my cries "And I don't think I can save him"
