Dear Miles Cade,
"I regret going on this trip. I haven't been a good best friend at all if I can't protect you from Mason. This trip is making me feel guilty for not being there for you. I need to hear your voice, I need to see your face, and I need you to let me cancel this trip."
Stop. Stop writing that you want to come back. This is your future, I'm trying to support you in this, and if that means you have to be away from me during the summer then so be it.
If I knew my summer would turn out like this, I would have never told you to leave.
But I did. I told you to leave and I want you to stay left. That pains me so much to say it, but I know in the end things will turn out all right. Look, don't feel guilty about any of this. This was my fault for even starting to date Mason in the first place and look where it got me.
I'm sorry I have to send you this letter without any further explanation, but the cops are at my doorsteps and I have to explain to my parents everything...
I'll write you soon.
I'll be here always,
Piper Cheyenne
