Piper Cheyenne's POV:
Today was the day that Miles woke up. Believe me, my heart was soring with joy and relief. My family got a phone call from the hospital, at first I thought it was horrible news because they were crying. It was tears of joy and soon enough I had tears in my eyes as well.
I'm standing in front of that hospital door with my hands shaking. At this point I can't open that door. My mind is blurry with so many worries and I don't know what will happen once I walk through that door. Tears are in my eyes, I'm wiping it off on my sleeve, and my heart is pounding out of my chest.
I open the door. My face forms into a smile at the sight of him.
The intimidating machinery surrounded Miles as he sat up from his hospital bed while he stared at me with confusion on his face. Wires hung from rusty, cold rods as the machine's lights flickered off and on. No words were spoken between us only the sound of the clock on the other side of Miles that continued ticking. It made the silence bearable. I gave him a smile, but I did not get one in return.
"It's nice to see you again," I started to say, "I've missed you so much."
He gives me a raised eyebrow. I can tell that he was focusing on my face as if... as if he didn't know who I was. He continued to stare at me with that expression and I let out an awkward laugh, "Aren't you going to say anything?"
"I'm sorry," He spoke to me in a quiet voice, "I just...you look familiar."
"Familiar?" I ask with my voice that started to crack.
Miles frowned, "Who are you?"
I didn't say anything. I covered my mouth as the tears left my face. The next thing I knew I was being pulled out of the room by a nurse. I kept my eyes on her as the words of explanation left her mouth of why he doesn't remember me. I wasn't listening to her. I couldn't listen to her. It couldn't be true.
Miles Cade, my best friend that I am in love with doesn't remember me or any of our memories together.
The minute I fell to my knees burying my head Bradley knew that all I needed was a hug. Comfort. My mother and father hugged me soon after; all of us were on the hospital floor. We stayed like that. If it wasn't obvious enough, I wasn't in the best position to try and get up. I only wanted to drown in my tears.
"He doesn't remember anything," I whimper, "It's all gone..."
"It will be fine," Bradley said in a soft voice, as if I could believe that in this moment.
I stared up at him, frowned, and shook my head, "I don't think it will."
"Trust me Piper, he'll remember you eventually."
"No, you're wrong. You're wrong..."
I heard my father shush Bradley. As much as I appreciated my father's efforts to make the situation better by telling Bradley to not speak, it only made things worse.
However, I can't imagine how Miles must be feeling...he doesn't remember anything and the first thing he sees is me crying at the sight of him. Needless to say my heart is aching of a pain I have never felt before.
