"What happened?" Sophie grabbed a drink from Juliet's fridge before going to sit down on the sofa.
After the incident between Matt and Juliet earlier that day, the pair of them had called a sudden end to the court. Neither of them wanted to do it anymore and claimed that they had sorted it out between themselves.
Although they thought it was an easy escape, it hadn't worked in their favour and they were only just beginning to realise that now.
"I managed to talk him out of it before we went in. He backed out." Juliet shrugged as though it was not a big deal.
"Really? That easily?" Sophie asked with an unbelieving expression on her face and she earned a nod from Juliet who was not giving much away. "That doesn't even make any sense. You could have spoken to him before today if it was going to be that easy."
"But I did it today and we sorted it. Don't worry, this is a good thing."
While Juliet was sounding perky and confident in what she was saying, Sophie was fuming and it was clear it hadn't been picked up on yet.
"No it's not a good thing, it's unprofessional." She bit in return, prepared to get her point across.
Noticing the change in Sophie's voice, Juliet suddenly turned serious and she was prepared to listen to what was coming next.
"My mum was stood inside waiting for you and you didn't even tell her yourself what had happened, she heard from the judge."
Once Matt and Juliet had decided to call quits to the court case, they had managed to persuade their other halves that they needed some time to breathe away from all the previous stress. From there, they had both left, trying to make it look as though they had left on their own but instead leaving together to talk.
"I'm sorry, I just had to get out. It had all been too much." Juliet replied, sounding apologetic but she didn't understand how serious this was.
"She worked so hard out of pure kindness on this case for you and you just bailed last minute. Do you realise how bad that can look on her professionality?"
Juliet didn't quite understand why she was so angry. She got that what she did had been inconsiderate after what Estee had done however, she didn't think it was worth the drama. But unknown to Juliet, Sophie knew the real reason why she had cancelled and that is why she had lost all respect.
Estee and Dylan had both seen what had happened between Matt and Juliet. They had both stood and watched it happened before watching them walk away after pretending it had just been an innocent conversation.
While Estee had been angered that all of her hard work had not been appreciated, Dylan had obviously just had his heart shattered. It wasn't just the fact that she had kissed him, it was that she was lying to his face and carrying on acting in such a bad way.
He didn't think she was like that. He didn't think she could be so heartless to treat him like a fool and pretend that she hadn't just kissed her ex outside the building he was standing in.
At first, Dylan was ready to charge out of the room and confront them both however, he had very quickly changed his own mind. He had instead, waited in hope that she would confess to what had happened with some kind of apology but instead she hadn't.
Therefore, he decided to put the whole situation to the real test and wait it out. He was going to wait it out and see if she was going to act like the woman he fell in love with and actually confess to her mistake.
Sophie was currently doing a similar thing; waiting to see if Juliet would be upfront and honest about what had truly happened. She couldn't believe she had walked away without so much of a thank you to Estee all because her and Matt had kissed.
"It isn't her fault though. People can't judge her skills for it." Juliet continued to rationalise while her mind wasn't fully present. Instead, her eyes were glued to her phone screen, as she was lost with whatever words were popping up in her messages.
"Is that Matt?" Sophie came right out and asked, her forwardness taking Juliet by surprise.
"What? No!" Juliet began continuously shaking her head.
"Oh right, my mistake." She nodded her head with an extremely casual tone, watching as Juliet was so lost in her phone once again.
"So you sorted joint custody out with him then?"
"Mmm." She replied, still barely listening.
"Are you going to split the days between you both?"
"Mmm." She nodded once again.
"Is it easier to agree now that you made out?"
"Yeah." Juliet responded before suddenly looking up at Sophie in pure shock once she realised what had been said.
"That's good then." Sophie replied before standing to her feet.
"Wait." Juliet called her to a stop. "How do you-"
"My mum, she saw you."
Juliet was unable to form any words to begin with as she felt a sickening feeling erupt in her stomach. She wanted to curl up into a ball and hide away from this confrontation, she couldn't handle it.
She hadn't even thought at the time that she could have been seen, it had been the last thing to cross her mind. However, now seeing how angry Sophie was, she realised what had really happened here.
"Shit..." She muttered under her breath.
"Yeah, shit." Sophie responded and her coldness and lack of expression was making Juliet feel worse.
"I didn't mean for it to happen... I didn't mean to leave your mum hanging or anything, I just-" Juliet began before she was interrupted.
"I know I can't judge you but I thought you were better than that. You're engaged, Dylan loves you and you're kissing your ex who treated you like shit!"
There were a few moments of silence as Juliet tried to hold back from saying what she was really thinking. However, she couldn't stop herself due to the mixture of anger, embarrassment and shame running through her.
"You're right, you can't after what you did to Elliot. I'm sorry for ditching your mum without explaining myself but my head wasn't in the right place."
Yet again, neither of them said a word and instead just looked back at each other before Juliet felt slightly guilty and spoke up once again.
"I'm sorry, please don't say anything to Dylan. It shouldn't have happened but it did and it can't be changed now."
Nodding her head, Sophie grabbed her keys off the side before beginning to make her way to the door.
"I understand him being back may be exciting and confusing but don't forget how far you've come in these years without him. Don't let him drag you back down; you're so much better than that." Sophie breathed and you could hear the disappointment in her voice.
Before Juliet could argue or say anything in return, Sophie left the house, leaving Juliet to stand and stare at a closed door while trying to process what had just happened.
She couldn't believe Estee had seen her. She couldn't believe Sophie had approached her and also felt the need to judge her actions.
Her mind was so messed up and confused and she didn't know how she felt.
She wished she could just disappear for a few days while things settled down.
She wished someone else could take her place and know how to deal with this in the right way.
However, she knew she had to step up and deal with this all by herself.
