Unsettling

Of late, things are rather unsettling,

A lot of things running through with tensions mounting,

Somewhere in this hazy blur,

I wish things remained as they were,

It isn't the fact that things are changing or that life is moving forward,

What's troubling is the afterwards,

How will it be? Will things become okay?

I hope we reach a nicer happier place than we are at today,

One bunch of troubled souls surviving as best as we can,

Trying to hold on to something despite things going out of plan,

Why are we being challenged so?

Things are reaching a point of saturation; I don't know how much further we can go,

I don't mind disappointment or things going awry,

But this is transforming into something tragic, and I don't understand why,

How far we have to go before it all starts making sense I do not know,

We do the best we can not to give up and go,

I pray for an end to all of this, a real end,

Where we no longer have to fight and defend,

Ourselves and each other against the world,

I wish the universe would remember that I am just one girl,

And that things become tiresome to live through,

Running away becomes an alluring prospect; one I cannot do,

I'll hold on till I decide to let go,

When that will be I do not know,

I feel restless all of a sudden; it's uncanny,

My heart and mind are constantly racing on lines so many,

The feeling discomfort goes to the level of constantly feeling choked,

On some days breathlessness hits me without being provoked,

I toil on as best as I can though slowly it is become clear,

That I can no longer go on like this; shackled by life and by this haunting fear,

And at some point it will all become too much for me to bear,

At that point, I will let it all go I swear,

Then all the hard work will go in vain I know,

But that can't be helped I suppose,

This constant race against life's vicissitudes is nothing short of exhausting,

I am tired by this constant assault; it is highly unsettling.
