Something makes tonight so much more peaceful than any other,
Without the usual human clamour,
Even the dogs it seems are intent on leaving the silence unperturbed,
It is a gift from heaven that this night should be so quiet,
The only sounds that pierce the stillness,
Are the lonely crickets crying out for company I suppose,
The sky isn't black; it's a dark hue of brown and grey,
The threat of light night showers looms all around,
Something that is much welcome in this parched place,
The night makes a person dwell on things,
Think about the happenings of his life; as far back or as much into the future as foreseeable,
Tonight it is so quiet that you can hear your mind racing,
It's wonderful; it is enriching to have these few quiet moments with yourself,
Just to think and get a grasp on your life,
Turbulence may be the ways of the day to come,
And it could prove to be unsettling in more ways than one,
Putting all that fear and worry aside is easier because of the stillness.
And for now, I'll just enjoy the quiet sounds of the night.
