Recalibration

She didn't know what she feared more - her reflection or her shadow,

More than that, she had an almost crippling fear of the unknown,

What was coming her way? Who would be the next to go?

It truly scared her, for she did not know,

There were days when she felt like anything but herself,

On those days she realised she had no one to turn to for help,

All that time spent in taking care of everyone else,

Amounted to nothing because in the end she had no one but herself.

So she closed her eyes and prayed; she took that unbreakable vow,

Never to ever let in one in again, not ever again and not now,

Many storms had been weathered with her own logic and intuition,

It had all been managed with great aplomb and precision,

The love and appreciation she craved would never come,

Her quest for this acceptance was finally done,

Reality was so undeniable, so true,

In life you only ever really have you.

The winds, the sea, the mountains and the rain,

They all tell the same story; a constant tale,

Nature shows you that there is only the survival of those with the intent to survive,

That vicious cycle she was in of dying and rebirth would no longer consume her time,

She would take the constance of nature and the fragility of life both,

In order to protect herself, and fulfil her oath,

She would only love again, when the time was right,

When she felt in sync in body, soul and mind.

The people who broke her, helped her re - create her foundations,

The people who left her helped her reign in her emotions,

Each phase she has navigated through in her tempestuous life has warranted recalibration,

Of her thoughts, her attitude and life's re - characterisation,

This new phase requires no less, in fact to move through it to reach greater heights it requires more,

More care, more belief in herself and hope for better things in store,

A stiff shot of patience too; she could feel her character strengthening,

Her life would change for the better, the more she believed in the good things happening.

It is always sad to leave people behind, for each person cannot be replaced,

Such is the journey of life with its numerous unpleasant challenges faced,

Change in the only constant in life; one must move with the flow of things,

Only then can a person accept and enjoy the goodness which life does bring,

If one is embroiled in a constant battle against the forces of the Universe, there will be no happiness,

It isn't about finding the side with the greener grass or the easier existence,

Life reveals itself as being a journey to find your place under the stars guaranteed by your very birth,

She needed a re - calibration to understand this truth and henceforth for happiness she would not to search.
