Josh's POV

I walked in the front door and dropped my car keys into the dish on our counter. I slipped off my jacket and tossed it over a chair.

"Tyler?" I called into the seemingly empty apartment. I didn't get a response and I knit my eyebrows together in confusion. Tyler had told me his shift was ending at 4:00 and it was 5:30 now.

I walked to the bedroom to change and stopped in the doorway. Tyler was sitting at his keyboard, headphones plugged in, playing methodically. I smiled and took a step towards him, tapping his shoulder. He flinched and put his hand on his heart.

"Jesus, Josh! You scared me!"

"Aw, I'm sorry. I called your name but you must not've heard me."

"Yea, I was just messing around."

"Why did you have your headphones in if you were home alone?" Tyler opened his mouth to say something but closed it. He just shrugged and I laughed before placing a kiss to the top of his head. When I pulled away he had an adorable smile on his lips. "Are you hungry?"

"Yes!"

"What are you hungry for?"

"I want a good ol' sandwich." I laughed at his word choice. He was such a dork.

"Panera?"

"Panera!"

I carried our trays to the booth Tyler had saved for us. We had both gotten soup and sandwich combos. He smiled at the food happily before taking a huge bite.

Seeing him eat so well made me happy. I would remember the days at camp when it was a battle to get him to eat a small bite of anything. I was so proud of him.

"Aren't you gonna eat?" Tyler asked through a mouthful of food. I laughed before nodding. I picked up my sandwich and took a bite. I moaned in delight at the amazing taste. I heard Tyler laugh at me and smiled.

"How was your first day?" I asked after I'd swallowed. His smile faded a little and I grew worried.

"It was really good. Except, well," Tyler started. He trailed off at the end.

"Well, what?"

"Brendon works there." I set down my sandwich. I'd suddenly lost my appetite. "Dallon does too but he wasn't working today."

"Oh," I said, quietly. I didn't know how to react. Brendon lived in the same town as us. We'd moved to get away from the judgement, and now Tyler had to see one of the biggest offenders every day.

"But here's the weird thing," he said. "He apologized to me."

"What?"

"I know! I told him you're the one he should be apologizing to and he agreed with me. I don't know what changed or what's wrong with him, but he's sorry."

"Huh. That's weird."

"Totally," he agreed. I shrugged and ate some of my soup. "Are you okay?"

"Yea. Why wouldn't I be?"

"I don't know," he said, shrugging. "He's just been so terrible to you in the past. You must feel weird about it."

"Of course I feel weird about it. But, if he says he's sorry, then something must've changed. I kind of want to talk to him."

"Are you crazy?" Tyler's voice was thick with worry and confusion.

"Why does that sound so crazy? If he's willing to apologize, I should let him." I looked at Tyler's frowning face. "What?"

"What if he's not actually sorry?"

"What do you mean?"

"What if, when you get there, he just does something mean."

"Tyler, we aren't in high school anymore. We're both adults."

"Barely." He said it under his breath but I still heard it. I rolled my eyes and ate more of my food. I heard him sigh before doing the same. I just swirled around my soup with disinterest.

"I won't talk to him if you don't want me to," I gave in after a while. "If you're really that worried, then I won't talk to him."

"No," Tyler said, sadly. He looked up from his food and I did the same. "I'm sorry. You should talk to him. I'm just paranoid. It's hard to forget the past. Y'know?"

"Yea," I laughed. "I know."

"Are you done?" Tyler asked. I looked down at my empty bowl and almost gone sandwich.

"Yea. Are you?"

"Mhm." We dumped our plates and walked outside. "Do you wanna see a movie?"

"What movie?"

"I don't know. We could just go and see whatever is showing."

"Okay," I agreed, laughing. We got in the car and I began driving. Tyler turned the radio on to a 90s station and hummed along to the music. I looked out of the corner of my eye and saw him smiling out the window, watching the lights of the city fly by. The song changed and he shot up.

"I love this song!" he squealed. I smiled at his excitement and turned it up. He sang along at the top of his lungs.

Yo, I'll tell you what I want,
what I really, really want
So tell me what you want,
what you really, really want

I laughed as he danced in the passenger seat. I tried my hardest to keep my focus on the road in front of me. He leaned over and sang right into my ear.

If you want my future, forget my past
If you want to get with me, better make it fast
Now don't go wasting my precious time
Get your act to together we could be just fine

He kissed my cheek before turning back to face the front. He began hitting the dashboard along to the beat.

"You're ridiculous!" I said, loud enough for him to hear me over he music. He just laughed his adorable laugh.
