Today was going to be a big day- Ricky and Josh were asking the girls out on dates.

Their plans were simple- Josh was asking Sirenia to go to dinner and Ricky was going to ask Rosaline if she wanted to see a movie. Both fairly normal first date things to do, they thought. Maybe then the girls would finally realize that they liked them.

Maybe.

But until then, Rosaline had things to do- Masquerade was being sold today. The home checks had been done, the vet check done and the papers all but signed. All that was left was to wait for Brenda to come pick her up.

It was bittersweet for the girls to say goodbye to her. Rosaline held the mare close to her heart, but that was a huge reason why she was selling her in the first place. She knew the mare would be happier somewhere else rather than in the school. And she loved to show, which Rosaline didn't have time to do much of herself. Not with her students also wanting to constantly show and all the other shit going on at the farm.

Her training with Draco, Wasp and Riddle (the horse who was formerly unnamed) had been going well. They'd been at the barn another 2 weeks now and things had been getting better and better with them. Draco no longer reared, Wasp had been handed over to Sirenia for her to do some more jumping work with him and Rosaline could now walk and trot around on Riddle with ease. She was proud of the little-big Thoroughbred for being so calm despite his age and lack of training.

Sirenia had her hands full too. Her two training horses, Devon and Merlot, were doing well. She'd only gotten pitched off Merlot (the one that took off rodeo bucking) once and hadn't really had any issues with Devon so far. She was beginning to wonder if the problem with Devon was his owner and not the horse. It definitely wouldn't be unheard of for the owner to be the problem and not the horse. That was the case more than half the time, in fact. And neither Sirenia or Rosaline were afraid to tell the owners that.

Although Sirenia usually let Rosaline be the one to break that news to them. The younger sister was deadly honest and didn't like to beat around the bush, meaning she was the perfect candidate to tell owners they sucked at riding their own horses and created all these bad problems their horses had due to their poor riding and training skills.

And this was what they got paid to do- fix stupid horse owner's mistakes. For the horse's sake, not the human's.

Rosaline was currently waiting at the front of the barn for Brenda to arrive, checking her phone every few minutes to see the time. She was due there any minute and she really didn't feel like waiting around for her too much longer.

She wanted to get this over with as quickly as possible.

Masquerade was grazing a few steps away, her lead rope dragging on the ground as she happily munched away on the fresh grass. Rosaline watched her intently, studying every inch of her dark body and reminiscing on the mare's time here.

She'd been at Covenant for 5 years now; and she'd looked like a completely different horse when they'd gotten her. She'd been skinny, sad-looking and scared of basically everything. She'd charged people who approached her in an attempt to scare them away and bitten the girls a few times within her first week or so at the barn. Then she'd began to trust the two of them and, slowly but surely, she'd gained weight and relaxed.

Looking at Masquerade now was like seeing a completely different, grown up version of the skeletal horse they'd unloaded off the trailer from auction so long ago. It was strange to think they were even the same horse when you looked back. So much had changed- hell, everything had changed. She was now well trained, well muscled, well cared for and happy- all things she wasn't 5 years ago. And now it was time for her to go to her new home and make someone else as happy as she'd made the girls and their students.
