Rosaline woke up with her head resting on a nice, soft pillow. Except as soon as she opened her eyes she realized it wasn't a pillow- it was Ricky's leg.
She blinked quickly, urging her eyes to adjust quicker as she looked up at Ricky's blurry face. He was looking across the room at someone, his lips moving in what Rosaline could only guess (but couldn't yet hear) to be a conversation. His hands were running through her hair absently, massaging her scalp and making her want to go back to sleep rather than get up and have to face what had happened.
Her last memory had been that mare's hooves hitting her and then her body flying backwards- everything after that was bit of a blur. She could vaguely remember Sirenia rushing over after she'd hit the ground, but that was it. Everything else between then and waking up was missing.
But now she was awake, or at least waking up, staring up at Ricky in a different location then where she passed out. And she could feel her legs draped across something too, her knees bent slightly over whatever it was they were sitting on.
Her eyes finally adjusted, allowing her to observe Ricky in all his... handsomeness? Would that be a good word? Rosaline wasn't sure as she still wasn't used to talking about her attraction to people. But, yes, Ricky was very handsome. Hot, even. Very hot. Very, very hot...
She was getting distracted.
She glanced over to see her legs were resting in Sirenia's lap, taking note of how her sister's hands were settled near Rosaline's ankles as she talked to whoever Ricky must've been talking to. Rosaline seemed to finally be awake enough now to be able to tell what they were saying, too.
"Are you crazy?!" A voice from across the room that Rosaline immediately recognized as Josh yelled. "That horse is going to kill you!"
Sirenia sighed, her fingers absently playing with the leg of Rosaline's riding pants. "I can't just let her sit in that damn paddock! She needs to be brought inside and evaluated- I may as well do it now to get it over with!"
Ah, so they were talking about the mare that had kicked Rosaline. Of course. And naturally Sirenia was already dead set on getting on her- and who knew how long it had been since she'd kicked Rosaline. Knowing Sirenia she'd probably wanted to hop right on the mare the moment she deemed Rosaline okay.
"Shouldn't we be taking Rosie to the hospital?" Ricky asked, glancing down at Rosaline curiously. She closed her eyes quickly, letting him continue to think she hadn't awoken. "She may have a concussion- and she's unconscious."
"She's not unconscious." Sirenia pointed out, prodding her sister in the leg as if to prove so. "She's been awake a minute or two now- she's just faking."
Groaning and squinting through the sudden headrush, Rosaline tried to sit up. "Thanks for blowing my cover, Siri."
The older girl smiled but didn't hesitate to gently push her sister back down into a laying position. "Don't strain yourself, girl. We really should've taken you to the hospital this time around, but I'm sure you're about t-."
"No." Rosaline shook her head, fighting back the urge to flinch again at how much her chest and stomach hurt. It felt like she'd come out on the losing end of a prize fight. "I am not going back to the hospital. Not now- not ever again."
The last time she'd been to the hospital was when a horse named Rango that they no longer had at the farm bit her twice- once in the shoulder and once in the face. She'd been forced to spend 2 nights 'for observation', ultimately leading to another 3 nights when the bite on her shoulder became infected. They'd needed a plastic surgeon to stitch up her face, but other than that her shoulder had ironically caused more problems. It was her longest stay in a hospital in her life, beating out the time she broke her arm in 3 places by a night.
