Chapter 10:

Olly Murs -One of these days

Amber

"I hope you’ll like it just as much as I do.” Wearing a big smile, he opened my door and I stepped out of the car.

“I’m sure I will,” I reassured. I blinked, and then took in the scene around me. A small sound escaped my lips in response.

“Wow.”

It was a lake, and a gorgeous one at that. The sky reflected off the clear water, which was only disturbed by the movements of two swans swimming around. The grass that framed the lake was healthy and green. And the sky provided a clear view to the stars that were shining like diamonds.

“Do you like it?” Daniel sounded quietly at my side.

“Yes, it’s just, just… Wow!” I repeated, not having another word for it. I hadn’t imagined that such a tranquil, nice place like this existed.

“Let’s sit there,” Daniel said, pointing at a big rock perching next to the lake. “I’ve sort of claimed the spot by this point.”

Following him, I treaded the soft carpet of grass until we got to the rock. It was slightly slanted, making it the perfect place to sit and enjoy the lake. So, we did.

“Gosh, what is this place? It’s paradise! How did you find it?” I asked.

"I found it by chance. It was my place through the darkest days of my life."

"Which days?" I asked cautiously. I knew I was about to cross onto a touchy subject.

“The days when I lost everyone I loved. My girlfriend, who cheated on me. My mum, who lost the battle with cancer. My father, who couldn’t stand losing Mum. Too much shit, Amber. If I start listing it all I won’t finish.”

“I’m so sorry, Daniel,” I said softly, genuine sadness in my tone. That had to be horrible, losing everything like that.

“Don’t be.” He smiled, and I could see how much depression was behind that smile. I stayed silent, admiring the shinning stars.

“Beautiful,” he whispered.

“Yes, it’s stunning!” I exclaimed. Despite the heavy topic we had just approached, I smiled.

We both just sat there in total silence, enjoying the peace. However, this only lasted about ten minutes because my phone rang shrilly in my pocket.

“I would love to throw this thing in the lake right now,” I grumbled, reaching in my pocket. “It’s Edward,” I said, reading the bright display.

"Answer it," he told me and I nodded.

"Hello?"

"Amber, where are you?"

“I am out,” I said quietly, avoiding the details.

“With who?”

"A friend, Ed," I rolled my eyes

"Hm. Okay. I am just checking on you, love. Call me if you need anything and… don’t stay out late, especially if you are alone. Tell your friend to drive you back and thank her for me,” he directed. I simply said okay and ended the call, quickly shoving the phone back in my pocket. Ed had no idea I was out with a guy, and I was going to keep it that way. I didn’t want to start a fight in the phone with Daniel next to me.

When that ordeal was over with, I sighed in relief, which was only met with a chuckle from Daniel.

“I should’ve captured your horrified look. Taken a picture or something.”
