CHAPTER 7: ALL THAT CONFIDENCE MUST BE CUTE!

I grinned back at Caz hoping I looked secure and at ease with the situation. Just As I was about to ask about practise times the teacher walked in. He was middle aged and bumbling with unfortunate smeared glasses, definitely not enough of a distraction from my whirring thoughts. Realising I was still awkwardly standing, I slipped into the open seat next to Caz, hoping to be left alone for the next hour.

Unfortunately, Mr Tack had the bad luck to glance down the role call and see my name.

'Do we have a Rebecca Jackson here?' he called out.

I was mortified, the whole class turned to stare at my so naturally my cheeks flushed rouge.

'Um yeah, that me.'

He smiled slightly, 'welcome to Miriam High, Rebecca.'

'It's Bex...' I said awkwardly.

His smile faltered but he nodded and scribbled something down on the role call.

As he turned to the white board to begin conjugating verbs I turned back to Caz who I suddenly noticed was watching me.

'So Bex,' she murmured, 'I'm having a party this Saturday, you know just a small get together with all the popular kids. You should really consider going. There'll be lots of alcohol, hot guys, even hotter truth or dare...' her voice trailed off.

Wow! 'Um I would love to!' I said fumbling my words a little.

'Perfect.' She says a little cat smile creeping onto her cupids bow lips.

Already I feel uneasy. Caz is like a doll, with her immaculate features, smooth even skin, and model worthy body. She looks as though she's never had a pimple in her life and I bet she never went through the awkward braces and bangs stage.

I know now that I'm pretty and slim I can fake popularity but maybe that's just on the surface. My act will be destroyed as soon as a guy tries to go near me. My heart rate flutters as I imagine kissing someone let alone anything else. I've never done even it before; I don't even know how it works. Shit! How can I fake something that I don't even understand?

Panicking a little, I try to turn my attention back to Mr Tack, but I can't concentrate on his words. All I can think about is staying popular and not fading into the background. Just then I notice a guy watching me, he has bronze hair and the trademark smirk of a player. Becky would flinch away, but Bex, she would smirk right back, stick her chest out and give a knowing smile.

So I do.

I watch in awe as his eyes narrow and then travel down from my face before resting on my boobs. I thank the gods that I'd thought to wear a super push up bra from Victoria's Secret instead of my usual choice in underwear.

His eyes flick back to meet mine and he winks before turning back to face the front of the classroom.

My heart is pounding, in those few seconds it felt as though I had left Spanish class and was in a secluded spot. Suddenly I came back down to earth when I realised the whole class was staring at me.

'Well Miss Jackson?' Mr Tack queried.

My mouth opened and shut like a goldfish as I realised he expected me to answer the question. 'Umm' I say and glace toward the board. It looked as though the questions were true or false answers. It's a 50 50, I thought to myself.

'True?' I say.

'Luckily for you, that's right. But a word of advice, you tend to learn more if you actually pay attention miss Jackson.'

My cheeks flush magenta, 'sorry' I mumble.

Bronze hair boy turns around to look at me again and with a small smile winks.

*

'Who was that boy in Spanish with the bronze hair?' I ask Caz as we leave the room. I have trig next and she, bio, which were thankfully in the same building.

'Oh? That's Jasper Stevens. He's hot, a total player and wonderful in bed.'

'You've slept with him?' I try to keep my voice neutral.

'Honey, everybody's slept with him. I would deffo recommend it though.'

'I'll bare that in mind.' I mumble.

She laughs, 'I like you, you know what, I'll put in a good word for you.'

With that she winks and leaves me gaping, alone in the middle of the corridor.

I'm just starting to panic as the tides of people ebb away when a cool masculine voice speaks from behind me.

'Lost?'

I turn not sure who to expect, but my heart crashes in relief when I see its Marc, the boy from the parking lot.

'Yeah hey, I have trig in room thirteen?'

'Sweeeeet,' he elongates the syllable. 'I'm next door.'

We begin to walk and I feel myself relax a little. Marc and Stacie are probably the two nicest people I've met so far and both of them are totally popular and unfairly gorgeous.

'How're you finding your first day hun?' he nudges me, 'Caz not giving to much grief?'

'It's great!' I say, pleased that I sound enthusiastic and bubbly. 'Everyone seems really nice. Well,' I pause, 'apart from Mia.'

He laughs, 'don't worry about her, she's a grouchy little whore when she's hungover.'

I giggle, 'oops, this is my room, maybe see you later?'

'Love to.' He winks at me and taps me on the butt, 'cute jeans babe.'

Taking a second to recover my breath I open the door and half fall inside. Thankfully I recognize a girl from the parking lot earlier. I don't think she said her name but it would be hard to forget a face like hers. Everything was neat and concise, small straight nose, high cheek bones, slender figure, all mulled together with white blond hair just a shade darker than Caz's and sapphire blue eyes.

'Hey, anyone sitting here?'

She looks a little nervous and then smiles serenely, 'nope, help yourself. You're Bex right?'

'Yeah.' I say putting my bag underneath the chair.

'I'm Rochelle by the way. But you,' she grins wickedly, 'are all anyone's been talking about. Half the male population of the school are drooling over you already!'

'I'm sure that's not true!'

'It is!' she assures me.

I laugh just as the teacher comes in and silence falls over the class. I can't help but to feels more confident already. Sticking my chin up and my chest out I lean back and listen to what the teacher has to say.
