CHAPTER 15: CAN I HAVE YOUR NUMBER?
‘So how did it go?’ Marc pounced on me as soon as I left the locker room. Breathing a sigh of relief, I thank my lucky stars I’d thought to take down my hair and change out of my gym kit.
Shrugging, I tried to remain nonchalant, ‘well I made the team, so I guess I’ll be cheering at the homecoming game.’ My stomach knotted at the thought.
He pulled me into an unexpected, awkwardly one armed hug. ‘Knew you could do it hun.’
I'm suddenly attacked by an onslaught of feelings. First of all, I feel kind of woozy. Sort of squishy and weak at the knees at his touch. Then I realise I'm starting to feel guilty, at first I can’t think why, and then I'm reminded. I'm feelings guilty because Marc embodies everything I used to hate. Because just six months ago he would have been jeering and shouting abuse at me down the halls. And now the boy that represents everything I despise is making me feel woozy.
Shrugging off the feelings I pull back from the hug and shoot him a quick grin.
‘Well, there was a moment when this sophomore was chatting about her mad skills that made me worried, but I got over it.’ I laugh, trying to appear at ease.
He grins wryly, ‘suppose you’ll need a sweater now then?’
I frown confused, was this a euphemism or something?
‘For what?’
He chuckles, ‘homecoming game babe, I mean I know you've never cheered before but you must have seen the girls wear them at past games?’
I shake my head. ‘Wear what?’
‘Our varsity sweaters.’ He replies smoothly.
‘Ohh,’ I say in acknowledgement, ‘yeah, sorry I remember now...’
Yeah, obviously you’ve never been to a game before have you Bex..?
‘So how about it? You wanna use mine?’
My heart starts thrumming unnaturally fast. Stop it, stupid heart rate.
‘Um sure, I mean yeah if you don't mind?’
Wow, really coherent. I cringe mentally at myself.
He grins, looking genuinely happy for a second before his trademark smirk is back.
