CHAPTER 32: THE PERFECT COUPLE
Finally Friday came around. Luckily for me, my parents had relinquished the leash and I was allowed to go to Stacie’s party tonight. In fact, much to my blatant surprise I’d been called into the kitchen for a ‘family meeting’ to discuss my immediate freedom. This I had not been expecting. ‘family meetings’ were usually vile and terrible occasions which involved cleaning schedules or such like.
But today as I drove to school I was in a rather chirpy mood, the oncoming prospect of Stacie’s party excited me greatly. I was no longer shy little Becky whose only experience of alcohol was half a glass of champagne at New Years Eve. I was Bex, and she was popular, pretty and smart. The only thing my new self lacked was the ability to get a boyfriend. Hmm some things never change.
Even now as I parked my car in the school parking lot, I pulled in with ease to one of the best parking spots. Because when you’re popular no one would dare park in your spot.
I watched as people’s eyes glanced over us, whispering to their friends. It was like being famous. Strange, because before I’d never been one for the spotlight but it felt good to be talked about for the right reasons.
‘Hey sugar.’ A voice shocked me out of my daydream.
‘Oh hey Marc.’ I said with an attached grin, as I pulled my gym bag from the trunk.
He stepped a little closer to me, oh no, here come the palpitations...
‘Just wondering, are you still coming to Stace’s extravaganza tonight?’
I grinned back, ‘wouldn’t miss it... sugar.’ And with that I began marching toward the locker room to drop off my bag.

The rest of the day passed fairly normally. Privately I think most of my teachers were so shocked that I was handing homework in they believed I was bribing a nerd to do it for me. Little did they know, I was just a nerd in disguise.
At the end of the day I followed Stacie’s giggling parade of girls down to the parking lot. We would each be driving our own car there so as we wouldn’t be stranded come Saturday morning.
Much to my dismay I found out that Ella would have to ride in my car due to her brother needing to get home somehow. Silently I cursed Marc, did he really want to see me dead?
The first part of the journey was silent. I was playing a Taylor Swift album on my stereo so it wasn’t totally awkward. But then Ella decided she wanted to talk to me. Someone send help.
‘So, you and my brother.’ It wasn’t a question.
