CHAPTER 25: WHAT THE HELL HAVE I DONE?

Beep, Beep, Beep.

Christ what was that incessant noise?

What the hell was going off in the middle of the night?

I rolled over and eventually realised that the beeping was coming from my cell phone. I blinked open my eyes a little wider in confusion, had I set it for the wrong time? It couldn’t possibly be time to get up, could it?

Flipping my iPhone over, sure enough, it read 6:30. Why did I feel so achy and downright shattered?

Switching off the alarm I pulled myself into a seating position. I felt absolutely awful. The last time I felt this bad was after the beach party, and that was only because I was so hungover.

Wait... hungover?

Suddenly a million memories of last night came flooding back to me: sneaking out the house, the frat party... Brett. The last one made me cringe so much I collapsed into my bed again. How the hell I’d managed to get home and to bed was anyone's guess.

‘Oh no Bex...’ I mumbled aloud, into the pillow. I paused. ‘Wait a minute... SHIT!’

I shot out of bed so fast my head swam. One glance in the mirror and clearly I hadn’t taken my makeup off yet, but that was the least of my worries.

I ran into the bathroom washed my face and quickly applied some heavy duty concealer and mascara. One sweep of MAC lipstick and unfortunately that was all I had time for. Pulling on a playsuit and some sandals, I slipped on a cardigan and grabbed my school books.

No time for anything else, I had somewhere I urgently needed to be.

Thankfully my folded note was where I left it; I prayed the parentals hadn’t noticed me missing.

‘Mom?’ I called out hesitantly. ‘You awake?’

There was a pause, ‘You’re up early honey, you okay?’ she seemed herself, no sign that she was mad anymore.

‘Yeah, I've got a study date with Niki; sorry I've got to go.’ I whisked into her room, where she sat drinking a chai tea, still in bed.

She smiled, ‘good to see you’re taking your education more seriously.’

I squirmed a little inside, ‘yeah mom, will do. See you later.’

‘Bye honey.’
