//Carl's POV
I walked back towards Alexandria, a huge smile on my face. I had forgotten what smiling felt like.
That smile was quickly wiped off my face as I approached the gate and saw a guy standing there. Maggie was watching him.
Jogging up to him, I caught his attention.
"Who are you?" I asked in surprise.
"Um," he replied. "I'm Derick. Nice to meet you."
"Okay," I continued. "What are you doing here?"
"Enid brought me here," he answered.
"Enid?" I asked, my sure if I had heard him right. "Why would Enid bring you here?"
As if on cue, the gate opened and Enid and my dad walked through.
Her eyes widened slightly when she saw me.
"Carl," she said before clearing her throat. "This is, uh...this is Derick."
"Yeah, I know," I said forcefully. "What is he doing here?"
"Can I tell you later?" she asked, clear desperation in her voice.
I sighed and looked at Derick. He was staring at Enid, dazed.
I didn't know why, but it made me clench my fists.
My dad walked up to him.
"So you wanna live here?" he asked. Derick nodded.
He nodded back, pressing his lips together and walking up to the kid.
"How many walkers have you killed?" he asked.
Derick became confused for a moment. He obviously didn't refer to them as walkers.
"Maybe around two dozen," he finally answered.
"How many people have you killed?" my dad pressed.
"None," he answered.
My dad narrowed his eyes at him. "Why?" he asked.
"I haven't needed to," Derick answered.
My dad seemed to contemplate for a second before nodding and clapping Derick on the shoulder.
"Alright, kid," he said. "Welcome to Alexandria."
Derick smiled and him, my dad, and Enid walked in together.
And I was left alone.

Author's Note: Hey guys. I've been able to somewhat come to terms with what happened on Sunday. I'm gonna try to update more. It's gonna be really hard writing this story since Glenn and Abe are still alive in it 😔 So long partners. Fly high. Also, I'm working on this new story called Daughter of the Fallen. It's basically what life would be like if Abraham had a daughter. The first chapter is done. But I can't juggle 6 stories at once. I would have to discontinue Forever and Always. Let me know your thoughts.
