A/N: I finally found a good song that perfectly encapsulates this entire story. It's called Fire Meets Gasoline (for more than one reason). If you wanna listen to it, it's up there 👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻

//Carl's POV

I was sitting out by the lake when I heard a voice behind me.

"Hey."

Turning around, I saw Enid towering over me.

I gave her a weak smile as she sat next to me.

"Did you have a good day?" I asked, breathing out the sentence.

Enid simply shrugged.

"I'm sorry I had to cancel," I apologized. "I feel bad."

"It's no big deal," she replied, seeming equally dazed as I was.

Afraid that I was about to make her mad, I took a deep breath before turning to her. "Can I ask you something?"

She looked at me with a questioning look in her eyes, adjusting her body slightly so she was facing me.

"Um," I stuttered. "What has been going on with you this week?"

Her face became confused and defensive as she recoiled slightly. "What do you mean what had been going on with me?"

"I mean," I said hastily, not wanting to upset her. "You've seemed pissed off at me basically this entire week."

Enid sighed and looked off at the lake, her face not portraying one positive emotion.

"I'm just worried," I told her. "I don't want-"

"What about you?" she asked forcefully, cutting me off, clearly mad. "You haven't exactly been Mr. Sunshine either."

Okay, so she wanted to play that game.

"Well, how do you expect me to feel when I come home to see a guy standing outside the gates looking at you like you're this special diamond?" I yelled.

"Carl, Derick has nothing to do with you," she shot back. "And anyways, do you actually expect that you can be the only one to make other friends?!"

"Don't bring Tess into this!" I said loudly, getting more angry by the moment.

"Then don't bring Derick in!" she retaliated, her voice at the same volume. "Why do you even care about him?!"

"Why do you care about Tess?!" I asked back.

We stared at each other for a moment before answering by quickly leaning in, our lips colliding.

I sort of went into a state of shock. And I didn't pull away. I didn't want to. Instead, I lightly put my hand on her neck, her repeating my action. My mind wouldn't stop racing. Why wasn't I pulling away? And why wasn't she?

Kissing Enid was totally different from kissing Tess. I couldn't say which was better, but they were definitely different.

Finally, Enid and I broke away, both of us staring at each other in complete shock.

"Um," she stuttered, breathing heavily. "I have to go."

And with that, she removed her hand and scrambled to her feet, quickly running away.

I was left with two contradicting thoughts.

Tess and how much I missed the the feeling of Enid's touch.

I still don't know whether or not to discontinue Forever and Always or not so I can post Daughter of the Fallen. What do y'all think?
