Thunder Storm

Ed and I were peacefully asleep on the sofa , when suddenly a crack of thunder jolted me awake from my sleep.
I immediately was wide awake and turned my head to the side to look out of the window. Heavy raindrops were pounding against the glass and a bright flash lit up the whole living room. I winced as another thunder rattled through the silence. Yes, I was 21 years old and afraid of thunder storms like a little kid. And yes, I knew it was stupid.

Ed was still fast asleep and I hated to wake him up. But I really didn't want to be alone.

"Ed." I shook him lightly and poked his cheek with one finger. "Ed, wake up." He stirred in his sleep and groaned.

"What?" he mumbled, still half asleep.

"There's a storm outside, Teddy," I whined and burried my head in the crook of his neck. Ed tightened his embrace around me and I felt his hand rubbing up and down my back in a comforting way.

"It's okay, baby. Nothing's going to happen," he said with a raspy voice. Another flash lit up the room and I pressed myself closer to him. Ed had no problem with sleeping during a thunder storm, but I would lie awake for several hours now.

"Teddy," I whispered against his skin. "Do you think it's pathetic to be scared of thunder storms?" He shifted a bit and supported his weight on one elbow so he could look down at me.

"No, Love. Everyone is scared of something. I'm scared of heights," he said with a smile on his face.

"I know. That's kinda cute." I returned the smile. He chuckled and traced his index finger over my mouth, my nose and my cheek.

"You're so beautiful," he said softly and leaned down to connect our lips. I reached up and and ran my fingers through his orange locks. His body hovered over mine and his clean, musculine scent filled my senses. I was full-on distracted by his soft lips until the sound of the thunder interrupted us. I whimpered and pulled away. "Shhh, come on, Honey. It's okay. You're safe with me," Ed soothed me and pulled me on top of him. His hands went under my shirt to rub small circles onto my bare skin.

"Sorry," I sighed and rested my chin on his chest, looking into his blue eyes.

"Don't worry, Sweetie. It's okay. I kinda like you having this fear." I tilted my head to the side.

"Why?" A smile lingered on his lips.

"Because I can hold you and protect you then."

"Aww, you're so cheesy, Teddy," I giggled and tapped his nose. He grinned and squeezed me lightly.

"I could stay up all night with you but I think we should go back to sleep now, or else we'll be staying in bed all day tomorrow," he suggested. I nodded and wiggled around to get more comfortable on top of him. I rested my head against his chest, the beating of his heart filled my ears and calmed me down.

"Goodnight, Teddy. I love you," I mumbled.

"Goodnight, Darling." I felt his lips touch my hairline before drifting of to sleep.

Our little midnight conversation had distracted me from the storm outside. Thunder, lighting and just the rest of the world - it all didn't exist, expect for him and me.
