"See, I told you they were still asleep."

"No, maybe they just didn't hear it. Knock again."

I slowly opened my eyes at the soft knock on our bedroom door that was followed by a groan from my nine year old son Charlie. "Ugh, Darlene, you have to knock louder or they're never going to hear us. Let me."

"Hey, don't push me or I'll tell mommy!"

I chuckled softly and sat up in bed, rubbing my eyes. I looked over at Ed who was still fast asleep, clearly not bothered by what was going on outside the room. He's always been a heavy sleeper.

"You're such a baby, Darlene!"

"I'm already four years old!" my daughter protested. "You're a baby!"

"Well, I'm older than you, so-"

"Kids?" I cut them off, causing them to shut up. Another soft knock broke the following silence. The door was cracked open and Darlene poked her head around it, an adorable smile on her face. "Can we come in, mommy?" she asked sweetly, opening the door a bit wider.

"Of course you can," I chuckled. Darlene squealed in excitement and ran through the room, Charlie right behind her. They jumped onto the bed, almost knocking me over as they threw their arms around me.

"I wanted to let you sleep but Charlie forced me to knock on the door ," Darlene told me with a serious voice and big blue eyes. She got them from her dad together with her curly, red hair, whereas Charlie had my brown eyes and light brown hair.

"That's not true, mom! It was her idea to wake you because she wanted to see the stupid Easter bunny!"

"The Easter bunny is not stupid," Darlene pouted and glared at her brother.

"Charlie," I sighed. "Be nice to your little sister."

As an answer, my son just mumbled something under his breath. Darlene stuck her tongue out at him before her eyes fell on Ed, who still hasn't moved a bit. But I could tell that by now, he was only pretending to be asleep.

She reached her arm out to poke his cheek with her small finger. "Why isn't daddy awake yet?" she asked, moving off my lap to climb onto Ed instead, studying his face.

"Because daddy is very, very lazy," I told her with a smirk.

"Daddy heard that and it's not true," Ed grumbled with a raspy voice.

"Daddy!" Darlene chirped and leaned down with her lips puckered, wanting to give him a good morning kiss. He sat up so she could give him a small peck on the lips before wrapping her arms around his neck.

"Hey, Charlie," Ed said and they fist bumped, their usual way of greeting each other.

"Can we go outside now and search Easter eggs?" Darlene asked hopefully.

"I don't know about you but I'm soooo hungry. What about breakfast before. we go Easter egg hunting?" Ed suggested with a smile.

Darlene nodded her head in agreement and hopped off the bed.
"Let's go," she ordered and pointed towards the open bedroom door. Followed by her older brother she walked out off the room and made her way downstairs, leaving Ed and me alone.

Ed leaned towards me and gave me a soft kiss on the cheek. "Happy Easter, Honey," he grinned and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. I smiled at my husband and leaned into his touch, placing my hand over his.
"Happy Easter, Ed."

"Mommy! Daddy! Where are you?" Darlene yelled from downstairs.

"On our way, Sweetie!" I yelled back.

"Someone's unimpatient. I wonder where she got that from," Ed teased.

I playfully hit his shoulder. "I have no idea what you're talking about."

-------------------

After breakfast we all headed outside for the Easter egg hunt. Ed was carrying a very excited Darlene on his hip. She was wearing a cute Easter dress together along with a pair of Easter bunny ears on her head.
Charlie always made sure to stress that he already was too old for Easter egg hunting but that didn't keep me from hiding some eggs for him, too.

"Are you ready to go find some eggs?" Ed asked, earning an excited squeal from his daughter. He let her down on her feet and I handed her a small basket. She grabbed it and immediately started searching our backyard for the shiny eggs.

"Go help your sister, mate," Ed said, patting Charlie's back.

"Dad," he moaned. "I'm too old for this."

"No, you're not," Ed laughed.

Groaning Charlie joined his little sister to help her gather the eggs.
Ed wrapped one arm around my waist and pulled me closer.

"I wish they'd never grow up, Ed," I sighed and placed one hand on his chest.

"Me, too." Ed's lips brushed over my temple. "But we can always make another baby, right?"

"Of course we can, if you're the one giving birth this time," I answered and took his hand. "Come on, let's see if they need help with the eggs."

"So we can't make another baby?" Ed asked confused.

"No, Ed!" I laughed.
