I was watching Kevin, Ed's tattoo artist, preparing everything for the process of tattooing me, with a sick feeling in my stomach. Today was the day, I would get my very first tattoo. Ed's missing puzzle piece would soon be tattooed a few inches below the crook of my elbow. Or not.

Ed was sitting next to me on the big, black chair, one arm around my shoulder, the other holding my hand. I really wanted to get that tattoo but I also was really scared.
Ed must have felt my anxiety because he squeezed my hand and pulled me a bit closer to him.

"You alright?" he asked softly, looking at me with warm eyes.

"Uh, actually not. I'm just really nervous and also a bit scared," I admitted and looked down at our hands, feeling embarrassed.

"Honey," I felt Ed's fingers under my chin, lifting it up so he could look me in the eyes. "You don't have to be scared. It will hurt at first, but it won't last too long. I promise. You'll do great," he told me, gently rubbing his thumb over the back of my hand. "I don't want to force you, tho," he quickly added and smiled. I bit my lip, chewing on it.

But I already knew my answer. I wanted to be Ed's missing puzzle piece. I looked up at him and smiled a bit.

"Okay, I'll do it." Ed's face lit up and he gave me a quick kiss on the cheek. "BUT," I continued. "I want to sit on your lap."
Ed laughed and let go of me, patting his lap. "Come here, then." I wasted no time climbing onto his lap and getting comfortable there. Ed wrapped his arms around me and set his chin on my shoulder. "Good?" I nodded and smiled.

"Sooo you two love birds." Kevin had finished his preparations and sat down on the stool in front of us. "Where do you want your tattoo, Dear?" I streched out my arm and tapped on my skin.

"There."

"Alright, let's do it then." Kevin said and started to prep my skin for the tattoo. I told myself to calm down, but as soon as I heard the loud buzzing sound of the needle, I immediately tensed.

"Baby, relax. You'll be fine. I got you," Ed whispered and laced our fingers together. I tried my best to relax and to not freak out. I leaned back, feeling the comforting warmth of Ed's body, hoping it would help me to relax. But  as the tip of the needle touched my skin, I squeezed my eyes shut and groaned. It hurt. Really, really hurt.

"Oh god, Ed. How did you convince me to do this again?" I hissed and clutched his hand, digging my nails into his skin.

"My charm?" he joked, trying to distract me. I forced a little smile on my face and took a glance down to where Kevin was inking my skin, hoping he would hurry up.

"Almost done," he told me while colouring the little puzzle piece. I wanted it to be blue, because Ed's eyes were blue and I loved them. Creative, I know.
A few painful minutes later, Kevin finally put the needle away.

"All finished. I'm just going to cover it up, alright?"
I looked down at the shiny blue puzzle piece that now would be there on my skin forever. I smiled and turned my head into Ed's direction. He also had a grin on his face.

"I did it, Ed." He brushed his nose against mine and pecked my lips. "Yeah, you did. I love you," he said softly.

"Love you more."

After Kevin had put a thick bandage over my new tattoo, Ed slipped one arm around me as we followed Kevin to the counter. "Feel alright?" Ed asked. I nodded and smiled.

After paying Kevin and saying our goodbyes, we left the shop. Outside, Ed wrapped me in a tight hug.

"Thank you for being my missing puzzle piece, Alice" he mumbled and placed a soft kiss on my temple, hugging me even tighter.
