Coming Face To Face With Maui

Chapter 1

Moana's POV

I've been sailing across the ocean for quite some time now in search of Maui. I've heard the legends about him as well as my parents constantly telling me how dangerous he is. Based on what I've heard, he doesn't sound extremely evil. If anything, he's simply misguided. He got a taste of power and it went to his head. I'm going to do anything it takes to get Maui to board my ship and come with me to restore the heart of Tahiti.

    A few hours later...

After days of sailing and fighting the whiplash of the ocean, I've finally tracked down the island Maui has been hiding out on for ages. I tie my boat up to the dock that's nearby. As if by fate, Maui comes strolls out of the bushes. We eye each other before I say what pops into my head. He then interrupts me. "Hero of men. It's actually Maui ,shape shifter, demi-god of the wind and sea, and hero of men." I try speaking again but he interrupts once more. "Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry. And women. Men and women. Not a guy, girl thing. Maui is a hero to all." He then assumes that I'm a fan of his and signs my oar. I look at him in disgust. I hit him with my oar. "You're not my hero Maui and I'm not here so you can sign my oar."

He looks at me in confusion. "Then what exactly are you here for?" I take a step towards him. "I'm here to have you board my ship of course. You're going to restore the heart of Te Fiti" He smirks and bursts into laughter. "Kid, you're out of your mind. There's no possible way you're going to get me to board your pathetic excuse of a ship, let alone restore the heart of Te Fiti." Before I know it, him and I are having a tussle before he traps me in a dark cave. I can hear him leaving with my ship. I jump to the top of the cave and just barely squeeze myself out. I swim as fast as I can to catch up with him. When I do, he's stunned. He then tries to throw me off the ship, but the ocean waves simply carry me back. After a few tries, he gives up.

"The ocean chose me for a reason so remember that next time you underestimate my skills. Now you might as well make yourself useful and teach me how to properly navigate the ocean." He rolls his eyes. "And why would I do that?" I smirk this time around. "Because you and I are going to be spending a lot of time together. Besides, you might as well make yourself useful. I'm assuming you know how to properly navigate a boat on the ocean." He pushes past me and adjusts the sail. "Of course I know how to navigate. I'm a demi-god. You're merely a mortal. Now get out of hair for a bit while I fix the mess you made." I roll my eyes and watch Maui for a bit. Exhaustion eventually sweeps over, but I try to brush it off. I have to keep my eye on Maui until I know I can trust him enough. He just trapped me in a cave not even an hour ago. Trust isn't going to come instantly.

So I saw Moana a couple of days ago and instantly became obsessed with it. It was incredible. Also, I've been wanting to start a new fanfic but struggled to come up with a new idea. Once I saw Moana, I got instant inspiration to try my hand at a Moana fanfic. Fun Fact: This is my first time writing a fanfic based on an animated movie. Hope you guys like this chapter though! :) -Mary
