Having Kano Over For Dinner

Chapter 109

Maui's POV

Three days later... Dinner with Kano

So tonight's the night that Kano is coming over for dinner. He told texted Lana a few minutes ago saying he'd be here in ten minutes. She's been torturing herself sitting on the couch, clutching her phone in hand and glancing at it every few seconds. I go over to her and stand in front of her. I grab her phone out of her hand. She pouts up at me and I laugh. "Relax Lana. He said he'd be here in a few minutes. Knowing Kano, he's a guy of his word." She sighs. "I know dad. I don't mean to be nervous. I just want tonight to go well is all. That way Kano will report good things to his parents about me. The thought of meeting them and being grilled with questions gives me anxiety."

I bend down so I can look my daughter right in the eyes and put my hands on her shoulders. "You're fine sweetheart. Kano likes you a lot and I'm sure his parents will too. I mean after all, who wouldn't like you? Everyone in the village is smitten with you. You may not notice it, but all of the boys look at you." She looks away sheepishly. "You're just saying that dad." "No I mean it. Your mother notices it too. Right Moana?" She nods with a smile. "Your father's right Lana. They do indeed look at you." I turn my attention back to Lana. "If his parents don't like you, they're absolute fools. Plus, if they start anything, I won't hesitate to give them a piece of my mind."

Lana puts her hands up in fright. "Oh god no dad. What you did with Bane was enough. We don't need to repeat that again." I sigh playfully. "Fine... I won't do anything... yet. I can't make any promises for the future though." Lana nods in agreement, knowing that she won't this battle. I then give her phone back and head back into the kitchen and join Moana in prepping dinner.

10 minutes later... Right on the dot...

There's a knock on the door, which triggers Lana to jump up and run to it. I chuckle every time she runs. It's like there's fire crackers coming out of her rear end when she runs. Now in a frightening situation, that wouldn't be funny, but in times like right now, it's hilarious. Kano comes into the kitchen a moment later, extending out a hand from both Moana and I to shake. Even though we've met once before, this is the official getting to know one another session. The four of us make our way to the kitchen. Kano and Lana sit down. Moana tries to help me grab the food, but I tell her to sit down. She's been on her feet all day today. I want her to relax to a bit. She surprisingly does what I say without objection. The only time she does that is when she's worn out, which she clearly is.

Now I went all out on dinner tonight. I made mozzarella sticks and buffalo chicken wings for appetizers so we start with those. After we eat about half of the appetizers, I decide it's fit to start asking some questions. "So Kano, what's it like to work at the fruit stand?" He laughs. "It's an easy enough job. I do it part time due to classes. Though I also get an allowance from my parents for helping out with chores and such. I'm eighteen, but still live at home due to financial struggles. Both of my parents work full time." Moana and I look at each other, both of us impressed by Kano and his family's work ethic. Moana then asks the exact question that was on my mind. "What do your parents do for a living Kano?" "My mother's a painter and my father's a construction worker." I smile. "That's awesome. They seem like nice people." Kano smiles. "They are, despite coming on strong at times." He then puts arm around Lana. "I've told them so much about Lana and they're so excited to meet her next week. I know they're going to love her." I smile back. "I'm sure they will."

We then move on to the main course, which is burritos. Moana and I ask him some more questions such has what are his hobbies, where he sees himself in a few years time, etc. He answers all of them with grace. Lana answers some questions that are directed at both Kano and her. After comes dessert, which is strawberry cheese cake. Kano, Lana, and Moana all drool, causing me to chuckle as I place it before them. Moana blushes when she catches me staring. "Maui, you didn't have to make this much food. We appreciate it, but it must have taken you ages." I swat her comment away. "Nonsense. I actually enjoy cooking and baking just as much as I enjoy eating." Kano laughs. "You should be a chef. Your food is superb." "Thank you Kano. I'm glad you like everything. I'm also glad to see how well you're treating my daughter." "Your daughter deserves only the best. I'm far from perfect, but I try. Compared to Bane, I consider myself a gentleman." I snort. "You got that right."

We finish up dessert and Moana and I clean up in the kitchen to give Lana and Kano some privacy as they say their goodbyes, hug, and kiss goodnight. I know I'd feel awkward if people were staring at Moana and I kissing for more than a few seconds.

   5 minutes later...

I hear the door open and close, indicating Kano's departure. Lana then comes back into the kitchen with a goofy smile on her face. Moana then playfully nudges her and I grin. "I take it someone had a satisfying good night moment. Lana blushes and nods. "I'm going to head to my room to read for a bit and then go to bed." Moana and I both hug her and watch her head to her room.

I have to say tonight went really well. Kano answered every question Moana and I asked him. I respect that he was completely honest and didn't sugarcoat anything. Very few guys his age are like that. He's a good influence on Moana. I really hope they last.

Hoped that you guys liked this chapter! Also, thank you so much for 30,000 reads. That's amazing <3 I know while I was on vacation I only updated like twice, which may have caused some people to think I was abandoning this fanfic. I'd never abandon any of my stories. If I had to take a break from writing, I'd be sure to tell you guys. One more thing I'd like to address is to the people who keep commenting "This is weird, this is wrong, etc" on different chapters of this story. There are several of you so this isn't personal. While I respect your opinions, I don't understand why you're even bothering to read this fanfic. No one's forcing you to. You don't have to read my fanfic if it really offends you that much. Not being rude, but just stating the truth. In addition, this will be my only update tonight because it's a longer chapter and I'm too tired to right anymore tonight.  -Mary
