Chapter 36

Maui's POV

   I can't believe I just told Moana that I want to marry her soon after only a little over a month of dating. She told me she feels the same, but once again, I'm worried that I'm rushing things. What happens if we get married too soon and it doesn't last long? Marriages that are rushed tend to only last a year or less. I don't want that to happen with Moana and I. I want us to be married forever. I'm sure we will be as long as things go right. It's probably just my anxiety getting the best of me. I'm still trying to cope with it after last week's breaking point. I'm doing a lot better, but the image of Moana finding my limp body lying in a pool of blood is going to be stuck with me for a long time. The guilt I feel for putting her through that will continue to eat me alive. It's eating me alive right now. Though of course, I'm not going to tell Moana that. She planned this lovely date for us and I'm really enjoying myself. I'd be a jerk to ruin it with depression. 

   "Moana, I have a question for you." She smiles at me. "What is it?" I smile back. "It's one that I've been wanting to ask for awhile. It's going to be a dorky one so just brace yourself." She giggles adorably. "I think I can handle it because I'm quite dork myself." I nod. "If you had to pick one song that reminds you of us, what would it be?" "That's actually a really creative question Maui. I applaud you. I guess I'd have to say Rise Up by Andra Day. I heard it playing in the village a few times. It's a really empowering ballad about strength." I smile. "It sounds nice. I'd love to hear it sometime." She pulls out the ipod I got her. "I actually learned how to use this about three days ago and downloaded a tone of music onto it at the local cafe. I can play it for you if you'd like Maui." I smile. "Go for for it." She gives me one earbud to put in one ear and puts the other into hers and presses play. 

The intro plays and then the song begins:

 When it's done, I take my earbud off and squeeze her hands. "I don't think you could have picked a better song to sum us up if you tried Moana." She takes off her earbud and squeezes my hands back, even tighter than me. "I know Maui. We've been through a lot so far in our relationship. We're both a lot stronger than we give ourselves credit for." 

    With those words being said, we stay in our embrace for a little while longer before heading back for the night.
