Montonui's Not My Home
Chapter 43
Moana's POV
Four days later...
Tala, Maui, and I's boat pulls into the shore of Montonui and I can feel an anxiety attack coming on. Maui motions for Tala to go ahead and tells her that we'll catch up to her in a couple of minutes. Maui pulls me towards him and holds me. "Moana, try to breath babygirl." He hands me a paper bag that I blow in and out off until I begin to calm down. When I do, he grabs a hold of my hand and together we walk into Montonui, not too far behind Gramma Tala.
15 minutes later...
We're in the center of the village and everyone is looking at us in shock. More so at Gramma Tala of course because she's back from the dead. From the back of the crowd, my parents emerge displaying an array of emotions. Anger, shock, relief, and disarray. They look from Gramma Tala to Maui to me and back to Gramma Tala. My mother is the first one to speak surprisingly. "What are you all doing here, especially you Tala? How is it even possible that you're here?" Gramma Tala smirks at them. "I'm here to spite you of course." Fear spreads across both of their faces. Gramma Tala takes a menacing step towards them and pokes both of them with her cane. "I know everything about what you did to Moana and Maui, including how you banished them. How could you banish this two wonderful people, especially your own daughter from her home?"
I watch my parents look at the ground in shame and that gives me a slight feeling of satisfication. They deserve to feel guilty. What they did to Maui and I was horrible. In fact, it was practically unforgivable. Who the hell banishes their own child just because they want to be with the person they love more than anyone else in the world? What a messed up world we live in.
The guilt begins to wash off my parents faces. My father steps in front of my mother and snarls at Tala. "First of all mother, how on earth could you support them? Second of all, who brought you back?" Tala glares at him. "First of all Tui, they're in love. You can't tamper with true love no matter how much you try. Plus, Maui treats Moana like a queen. You'd know that if actually took the time to get to know him and observe his behavior. Second of all, Maui was the one who brought me back." My father's jaw drops. His gazes shifts to me as he points at Maui. "Maui did this?" I nod. "Well I'll be damned. Impressive, but it's still not enough to please me. It doesn't change the fact that he's corrupted both my daughter and my mother, turned them into demigoddesses, and dating my VERY young daughter."
Anger swells within me. "Nothing ever pleases you. Maui has made a huge effort to try to get to know you and all you've done is look down on him from the moment you met him. In fact, I think you're jealous of him. He's everything you've always wanted to be as a mine. He does things for me that you only dream of doing for mother." He then snarls at me. "You are a foolish little girl Moana. Just because you're a demigoddess now, doesn't change that. You're naive. He's going to hurt you just like he did all of those innocent people who died in the darkness." I glance back at Maui who looks a bit sad.
I snarl back at my father. "Boy, does it boil you up that Maui, Gramma Tala, and I get to live forever, while you and mother are going to be dead and gone day. Well when you're on your death bed and you're begging for dear life for the gift of another day, I'm not going to give it to you nor will the Gods. What you've done is unforgivable. You deserve no mercy." Gramma Tala and Maui are stunned by the words that just came out of my mouth and quite frankly, I am too, but they felt so good to say. "Mother, father, I'm ashamed to call unloving people like you my parents and I promise you that you'll never hear from me again."
With that being said, I storm back to the boat and Maui and Gramma Tala follow me. Maui grabs me gently and pulls me off to the side. "Moana, are you okay?" I begin to laugh like a crazy person and he looks at me with me concern. "Maui, I was so dumb to think that my parents were going to come around. They never will. Even when they're six feet in the ground, they'll still be talking about how much of a disgrace I was to them and the village of Montonui." I lean my head into Maui's shoulder and let my guard down. "How come they don't love me Maui? What did I do to deserve this?" He kisses my forehead. "Absolutely nothing love. You're an angel. A beautiful person inside and out. It's them who have the issues, not you. In fact, I forgot to give your father something. Can you come with me for a minute?" He tells Tala that we'll be back in a few minutes.
Maui leads us back into the village to where we were just moments before duking it out with my parents. My father looks at us with disgust. "What could you have possibly forgotten?" Maui steps forward. "This" He says as his fist collides with my father's face and my father falls to the ground. He gives Maui a death stare. "You're going to regret that Maui." Maui smirks at him. "No I don't think I will, but it's cute that you think so. You're a selfish, mean spirited, cruel prick. You're a disgrace of a human being and I hope karma bits you in the ass." Maui then grabs a hold of my hand and we walk back to the boat.
20 minutes later...
We're back on the boat and sailing out of Montonui for the last time. I don't even bother looking back. Montonui is no longer a place I call home. I've finally realized that Maui's island is my home and I can't wait until we get back there.
