Chapter 4

Maui's POV

The next morning...

   I think that time to myself last night really helped me. I'm feeling more alert and just better in general. I've also finally realized just how much courage Moana has at just 16 years old to sail across the ocean just to find me and make peace with Tahiti. I told her I would consider it a couple of days ago, but now I've made a clear decision to restore the heart of Tahiti. I haven't told her yet but I'm about to now. 

  "Moana, can I talk to you for a minute?" "Of course. Are you feeling better now?" I smile. "I am thank you. Anyways, I just wanted to tell you that I'm going to help you restore the heart of Tahiti." She lights up. "Really? What changed your mind?" I scratch my head awkwardly. "You did actually. Last night, you made me realize that I need to change my ways before I let power and greed completely consume me. Plus, you're the first person I've ever met that's been completely honest with me. I respect that. Even though the truth hurts sometimes, I'd rather have someone be honest with me rather than sugarcoat things." "I'm glad you're coming around Maui. You're starting to give me a bit of hope that things will be okay." 

    Something about that response sends a weird feeling through my veins and I'm pretty sure it's more than the blood pumping around my body. Suddenly I find myself wanting to do the right thing and wanting to please Moana. I take a glance at her for a minute, studying her face carefully. She's actually really pretty. I wouldn't want to tell her that right away. I know it would weird her out, especially because of our age difference. I'm like three thousand years old due to immortality and she's only 16 years old in mortal years. If I remember correctly, she still has about two years before she's of legal age. The point is I need to get some self control. I've only known for two days. It wouldn't be a good idea to get too attached too fast. 

    Not only is their the huge age difference, but there's my biggest concern. Getting too attached to a mortal will have emotional, mental, and physical consequences. Maybe not right away, but as the years go, things will definitely change. The funny thing is despite my concerns, I want to know everything about her and be the one to be able to make her smile like I did just now as well as last night.
