Chapter 68

Maui's POV

The next day... Nightfall...

Moana and I manage to pull into the shore just as the last signs of daylight fade away and night comes upon us. Tala is standing on the dock with a warm smile and open arms as always. The sight is both comforting and relieving. I'm glad that she got home safely. "Tala, it's good to see you" I say pulling her in for a hug. I catch her by surprise but she hugs back. "It's good to see you Maui. How was the honeymoon?" "The honeymoon was amazing, but we have a slight problem." Tala frowns. "Is everything okay?" "Yes and no. Moana's feeling okay emotionally, but she seems to have gotten somewhat ill on the trip. The strange thing is there are no symptoms that indicate what it could be. Moana just keeps on vomiting at random intervals. Is the doctor in the village still around? We're both exhausted but both of us want answers." "His hut is still open for another hour. I'm sure he'll see you if the two of you head straight there." I kiss Tala on the cheek. "Thank you! We'll have a late dinner with when we get back!"

I help Moana off of the boat and tell her to shift into hawk form. She looks at me curiously bu t doesn't question me. She follows me to the village. We land within five minutes. "Maui, what's the big rush? Why couldn't we just come here in our normal form?" "The village doctor's hut is only open for another hour and I knew that neither one of us could wait until tomorrow to get answers. Am I right?" She nods sheepishly.

I lead her to the village hut and let her enter first before entering afterwards. The doctor is a middle aged man. He greets us with a smile. "Moana and Maui, how may I help you guys?" "Moana and I were away on our honeymoon in Oahu. While being away, Moana seems to have gotten an illness. The problem is there are no symptoms that indicate what it could be. She just keeps throwing up at random intervals. Could you find out what's wrong with her?" "Absolutely. Moana would you please get on the table and lie down?" She does what he says, though she seems slightly nervous. I sit beside her and squeeze her hand to comfort her. She squeezes back tight, nearly breaking my hand. This goes to show she hates doctors and hospitals just as much as I do.

The doctor checks everything from her vision to her leg muscles. Though the area he seems to be focusing on is her stomach. He rubs a cold cream on her stomach and uses a small consul looking thing. When I see what it's connected to, I put two and two together. He's using an ultrasound machine to check for pregnancy. My heart begins to race as I watch the screen to see if something pops. Nothing does at first, but then a dot begins to glow on the machine. Moana notices it too and looks at me. I look back at her in shock. The doctor confirms our thoughts. "Well the cause of Moana's random illness/intervals of vomiting is the fetus in her stomach." "So you're saying Moana's pregnant?" He grins at us. "That's exactly what I'm saying. Congratulations to the both of you."

Moana smiles at me with tears in her eyes. "We're having a baby Maui." I wrap my arms around her and peck her on the lips. "We're having a baby." The doctor gives us a moment before we pull apart and give him our attention once again. "How far along is she doc?" "Moana's six weeks along. You're probably wondering why the vomiting spells didn't start sooner. They normally don't start until the fifth week of pregnancy. Though, just to inform you both, more symptoms will be coming on soon. Maui you're going to have to take care of Moana. She's going to need you. Also, try to avoid stress as much as you possibly can. Stress can lead to false contractions, causing something to go wrong with the pregnancy."

"I promise I will make sure Moana doesn't stress herself out along with myself stressing her out. By the way, what's your name doctor? I didn't catch it." He reaches out a hand for me to shake. "I'm Doctor Davi Raido." "Well thank you for Doctor Raido. I'm sure we'll be seeing more of you. How often does Moana have to come for checkups?" "Once a week." I nod, accepting that answer. Once a week isn't too bad. I help Moana off the table and we head back home in hawk form.

10 minutes later...

Moana and I landed five minutes ago, but we've spent an additional five minutes lingering outside of Tala's. I can tell Moana's worried about how Tala's going to react to me putting a baby inside of her granddaughter, especially after only just getting married. We both take a deep breath and head inside hand in hand. Tala looks up from the magazine she's reading. "Moana,Maui, did you get the answers that you seeked?" Moana gulps. "We did indeed Gramma. Though, I'm a little scared to tell you." She frowns at Moana's response. "Moana, babygirl, there's nothing you can't tell me. So please, just tell me." She takes a shaky breath. "I'm pregnant." Tala nearly jumps up and down in excitement. Relief swells within me.

"Moana, that's wonderful news. A child is such a blessing. You and Maui are going to be great parents. Your son or daughter will grow up in a loving home with a loving family. I'll always be there to help out whenever you need me." I smile at Tala. "I'm not going to lie, I'm a little nervous about having a baby. Mainly because I never had parents and I don't want to mess anything up." Tala puts a hand on my shoulder. "Maui, you'll do just fine. You've proved yourself to me, Moana, and the village people. I have faith that you'll be a wonderful father. Now both of you relax and eat. It's been quite the day for the both of you. Plus, I know that too much excitement isn't good for the baby."

I laugh. It's like Tala's a mind reader. She always knows what's on Moana and I's mind, especially Moana's. Moana and I eat some rice and chicken that Tala made before heading back to our place and going straight to bed. It really has been quite the day.
