I was still sitting in the hospital when I decided to call the unknown number back from this morning. I had to find out who it was.. maybe it was urgent.

When the person on the other end answered I didnt recognize their voice at all but aparently they recognized mine.

The moment Jeana said her name, my mind went blank. I was caught off guard like a mutherfucker.

"Hello?" She repeated.

"Uhh yeah, yeah, Im still here." I responded.

"Okay. I thought you had hung up on me after hearing Shay's name."

"Nahhh. I just.. wasn't expecting to hear from her sister. So wassup?"

"I was calling to see if you heard from Paula lately."

"Nah, she wont answer my calls, voicemails or texts and I've left plenty of those muhfuckers."

"Same here. Im just worried about her, you know.."

"We all are. I just wish she'd respond to somebody. Aint no telling where her ass went either." I said as I rubbed my head.

I looked up at my brother's bed because I could've sworn I saw something. I stared at the bottom of his bed as Jeana continued to talk. When I saw Shawn's toes twitch. I thought it was nothing but when they began to wiggle I instantly jumped up from my chair.

"Jeana, let me call you back." I said frantically.

"Okay, okay." She said understanding my urgency.

I hung up the phone and stood beside Shawn's bed. Even that little piece of evidence that he was coming too was exciting to me. Shawn's condition had been up and down since everything had happened. From the gun shot wound to the chest and his burns on his back and arms that were healing but at the same time, were still fresh.

I looked at Shawn with the covers up to his neck and the tubes coming from every part of his body. I was suprised that he was moving since he was so heavily sidated.

"Shawn man.." I called in a low tone. "Bro, its me.. Greg."

His eyes fluttered but didnt open.

"Greg, whats wrong baby?" I heard my mother say upon entering.

"I saw him move his toes ma."

She dropped her purse in the chair and walked over to Shawn.

"Son. Its your mother... son if you can hear me please open your eyes." She instructed as she rubbed his head.

I kept my eyes on his feet as she spoke.

Nothing happened.

"Shawn baby." She called again.

She dropped her head in dissapointment but I wasnt giving up hope.

"Shawn man, we're waiting on you. Let us know you hear us bro."

Shawn's eyes fluttered slowly.

"Ma." I said getting her to look up at him.

"Keep talking to him Greg." She said getting excited.

"Shawn, c'mon man, you gotta keep kicking. You still got some work to do on this earth."

Shawn's eyes crept open just a tad bit.

My mother took that as the que to call the nurse to come but she didnt let her eyes leave Shawn.

Shawn tried to get his eyes adjusted to the light as he blinked rapidly. It had been awhile since he'd seen any so I know they were burning like hell.
