I waited in the lobby with Jeana and De'Wayne for awhile. After a few minutes I got up and walked outside as if I was about to take a smoke break.

Moments later  De'Wayne came strolling out.

"I hear they're releasing Paula right now." He said.

"Yeah. I knew they would."

"Look man, I know we don't know eachother like that but Im a good guy. Ever since this mess went down Paula and I have gotten to know eachother better and every chance I get Im gonna make sure she good."

"Aint got no problem with you bro. Lets set that straight right now. I just hope you and Paula aint getting toooo close, if you know what I mean. She still is a married woman.. to my brother.."

"I can respect that. Im no homewrecker."

"I hope not. I cant afford to go through this shit again.

"I know what you mean. So what exactly did you say to them."

"Nothing. I just asked for the chief."

"The chief?"

"Yeah. Charles Wellons."

"Sounds like you got a lot of pull around here."

"Nah. Charles served with my pops back in the day. They go way back."

"Umh.. so did you find out if your moms was behind this?"

"Hell yeah. My brother was pissed!"

"I can only imagine."

"Bro had a full blown episode. Hopped out the bed and tried to escape the hospital. Blood gushing everywhere and everything."

"Damn."

"Tried to tackle the hospital security and all. Once he realized he couldn't, he broke down. What it is, he done realized how bad he fucked up. When he found out moms was the reason Paula was booked, he forced her to call pops and get her out."

"Wow man.. How you think she gone feel about that?"

"She better be damn grateful. At least she aint about to sit in the holding cell all night."

"You right."

As soon as De'Wayne and I finished our conversation Jeana and Paula stepped out the police station.

"I knew not to underestimate you Greg." Paula said as she walked out.

"You know I couldnt leave you in there sis."

Paula walked up to give me a hug.

"Thank you." She responded.

"It was nothing." I said accepting her hug.

She backed up and caught sight of De'Wayne.

"You came down here for me too?"

"Of course. You called and I answered.."

"I appreciate it. " She said as she stared in his direction.

It was little bit too long for my taste so I had to intevene.

"What happened in there?" I asked.

"Just questioning."

"Did you tell em' anything?"

"Nah.Well nothing serious. Just enough to defend myself."

"Like what?" I added as we walked away from the doors and to our cars.
