I leaned in closer. His lips were millimeters away from mine.
"I don't know if we should do this," I mumbled against him.
He closed the gap between us and our lips met. The feeling was famaliar, soft... My heart was pounding and my face was noticeably flushed.
"Do you love me?" He mumbled against my lips. "I don't think you do."
I nodded. "Of course I do, how could I not?"
He leaned back and opened his eyes. There was dead hatred in them. "You don't love me."
An inaudible gasp sounded from my mouth. My lips parted and words couldn't make their way up my throat. I couldn't make sense of what was happening.
He shook his head and moved further away from me. "You're just using me, and you know it. You don't love me. You never could. Do you even have emotions, Kara? Are you human-- like I am?"
I felt my heart dropping at rapid speed. What was he on about? "I don't know what you mean."
A humorless laugh echoed from his mouth. "You do. But you won't admit it to yourself. Do you love anyone? You don't care about anyone, aside from youself," he murmered, "I was foolish to fall for you. You've broken me, Kara. This is all you, all your fault. I dare you to try to pin the blame on someone else, it'll just show how much of a liar you really are."
My words came out cracked and strained. "I don't know what you mean, L..."

My body was swaying. In my half-conscious state, it felt as though I was on a boat. Back and forth, back and forth.
"Kara? Are you awake?" I heard a low voice hiss into my ear.
Frowning a bit, I opened my eyes slightly. I was no longer in Zak's dark hallway, leaning up against a cold wall. The sky was bright above me and muscular arms were holding me up.
I made a face and groaned. "Can't the world just stop for a few hours and let me sleep?"
"Sorry, sweetheart, I don't think it works like that."
I frowned some more before a jolt of realization hit me. Why was Lake carrying me? "Um, what is it we're doing exactly?"
He groaned a bit and stopped for a moment. "We're walking to my house. Everyone's either at work or at an academy, so I'm staying closely behind houses and in backyards. We're almost there."
"Oh." I let my head fall back onto one of his arms.
"By the way, did you know that you mumble in your sleep? I had to cover up your mouth when you were especially loud," he remarked with a grin.
My eyebrows knitted together as I narrowed my eyes at him. "What did you hear?"
He looked down and raised an eyebrow at me. "Nothing, really. Like I said, it was mumbling-- not talking. All jibberish."
I pursed my lips and nodded. "I only talk in my sleep when I'm having a nightmare," I murmered, more to myself than Lake.
"What was your nightmare about?" He asked with a frown.
