Chin up. Shoulders rolled back. Jaw set.
I stepped outside of Lake's house for the second time in ten days. Lake looked me up and down before nodding. "You'll be fine. No one will recognize you."
"I sure hope so," I mumbled.
He smiled, then gave me a light peck on my lips. "Don't get arrested, please," he whispered.
I broke apart from him and rolled my eyes. "I'm not counting on it. Also, where's Cassi?"
"Sleeping."
"Of course." I laughed and he grinned. I wondered if he was masking his sadness like I was, or if he was truly naive about his danger. "I guess I'll see you soon," I lied.
His grin weighed down a bit, but he nodded. "You will. Don't worry, you'll be fine. You and I, we're always fine." He paused for a few seconds before whispering, "I love you. Just wanted to tell you, in case things go wrong and stuff. They won't, though! I promise."
You shouldn't make promises you can't keep, Romeo.
"I love you, too," I told him. With a 180° turn, I walked towards what could be my death or my uprising.

I had been walking for almost a half of an hour, and finally had reached my destination. Long behold, the powerhouse of this City. The City Port.
It held the City President, whom I was going to try and get in contact with today. If I couldn't, I'd have to play dirty.
There were two white wearing Authorities in front of the main enterence. I confidently walked up to the one on the left side of the doors. With the curves, it was clearly a woman. She was taller than the person on the right side, but looked kinder.
"Name, please," she said boredly.
"Ovay Janet," I told her with a beaming smile. Ovay Janet was a girl in my previous Year, she had ginger hair with warm brown eyes like mine. Her body was a bit larger than my own, but not anything too extreme. She had the closest look to me, and she was my best shot.
The Authority tapped a few things on her gramlet, and then looked me up and down. Her eyes narrowed. "You don't look much like the picture we have in the records, Ovay."
I gave her an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry about that. You see, I've lost some weight due to the fact that I want to be a guard-- like you! I started practicing my fighting often, so I've lost weight and acquired a whole new look."
Flattery, in its best form. It works everytime.
Her thin, pale lips drew into a delicate line. "Okay. I'll let you in. Hope to see you on the squad next year, Ovay Janet."
I gratefully beamed at her and nodded. "I hope so, too."
The eight foot tall doors opened, and I willingly walked into them with glee. A burst of warm air confronted me, along with the smell of conformity and sad people.
My dark heels beating the marble floor was the only noise in the soulless long hallway to the receptionist. The receptionist was a young man, most likely only eighteen. Great. He'd be easy to manipulate.
"Hello," I said with a sweet smile.
He looked up from his gramlet with a startle. He grinned and asked, "Hi. How can I help you?"
