<><><><>I heard the door swoop open, yet didn't acknowledge whomever just walked in. I knew it was Jove, anyway.
"Queen, you have three messages," the famaliar low voice of my consultant said. "One from President Greon, one from President Arisy, and one from G. Halo, an Authority guard."
"Are any of them important?" My eyes were focused on the newsgram in front of me. According to the article title, a fight had recently broken out in my city that had majorly injured two guards. Random occurrences like that one had been sprouting more frequently in the past fifty days.
They all expected me, as Queen, to do something about it, but those fights were exactly what I wanted. A rebellion, a realization. I wanted people to come to their senses about their government.
These small bursts of rebellion were a result of my poor governing. Citizens were sick of their queen lacking any sort of grip on issues.
Even Jove and various guards had questioned me. I simply threatened to dispose of them, and they laid off.
"President Greon wants to meet up with you. President Arisy just wished you condolences for your guards that were killed on Day 145, I believe. The Authority guard message was about the fight I assume you already know about," Jove slowly read through.
I finally looked up at him with furrowed eyebrows. "What does Greon want?"
Jove's dark eyebrows went up, and then scrunched together. "Not sure," he said.
I pondered over it for a second, before shrugging the question off. "Tell him I'm okay with that. Will we meet here?"
"Not sure."
I rolled my eyes and leaned back into my chair. "You don't seem to have that much information."
"Well, maybe you should just do your job, and then you wouldn't need me to give you information," said Jove. I frowned. With a long sigh, I stood up from my chair and met his eyes. They were dark blue with specks of grey, like the ocean.
"Your eyes are so pretty," I remarked with a sudden grin.
A flash of confusion crossed his face. "Yeah, I'm aware."
"It was a compliment. You could say thanks."
He shrugged. His lips curved into a teasing smile when he said, "I mean, I kind of just expect compliments. I'm great, you know."
With a snort, I shook my head. "Not usually. You can be okay-- on your best days," I told him.
"Queen," he started, but hesitated.
"Yes?"
He threw me a small smile. "It's been tens of days. I don't understand, why can't we date? No offense, but you're kind of a loner. We just fit so well together, and we know each other best. Why not?"
I bit my lip and averted my eyes away from his. With a deep inhale, I told him, "I think it's time I confessed something." Under my breath I added, "To both you and myself."
"Okay, shoot," he spoke softly.
"I think I'm in love," I whispered. I glanced at his face, hoping to catch his reaction.
His eyes widened. "Okay. I mean, I think I love you, too."
I groaned and rolled my eyes. "Not with you. With... this guy. I thought I was over him, and I thought I could live without him. But I just want to be with him. I just want him, and I'd be okay with absolutely nothing else."
