Despite it being a ploy, we acted like a married couple.
We slept in the same bed-- mostly for the fact that there was only one bed in the entire house. We spent the day together, but that was also because we were wanted criminals who couldn't show our faces in public.
"This shirt is so unflattering," I mumbled. Because I had no clothes other than the pajamas I had been wearing for two days, I was forced to wear Lake's clothes. Much to my pleasant suprise, I didn't mind it too much. The clothes smelled like him and were loose and comfortable on me.
He raised his eyebrows at me from the bed. "Sorry, Your Highness," he rolled his eyes, "If I had known we would be in this situation, I would've overflowed my closet with dresses and skirts."
I huffed and sat down on the bed with him. To be fair, the bed was quite comfortable. It had dark blue silky sheets with cloud-like pillows.
"Sorry. I'm just stressed."
He snorted. "Galaxies, I can tell."
I let out a loud sigh. "What am I going to do?" I whispered in a breathless voice.
"We'll be fine. We've made it this far, not?" Lake mused.
Rolling my eyes , I leaned back and laid down on the bed. He didn't understand what I was talking about. If I were lucky, maybe he never would.
"No," I breathed, "you don't understand."
I heard a deep sigh escape his lips. "I feel like you're keeping something from me, Kara."
I jolted back up and gave him an intense look. "I don't know what you mean," I fired.
His hand made its way to the back of his neck. "It's just... I don't know if you're truly honest with me."
The situation reminded me of my dream. The cutting look in his eyes. The antsy feeling in my stomach. It turned on all my alarms, and I was prepared to fight back this time.
But.. It had been a dream, and this Lake was real. "I swear I'm not keeping anything from you," I whispered, avoiding his eyes.
He nodded, but there was still clear doubt in his eyes. I watched him slowly stand up. Mutely, he ambled to the door. Turning only a few degrees, he said, "Kara, I hope you know I love you. I would never keep a thing from you."
The door slid shut. My eyes were stinging and I felt as though I could still see him standing there. I would never keep a thing from you.
I gulped. Anyone could lie, and maybe he just had. I directed my eyes to the window on the left side of his bedroom. Authorities were standing right on the street, waiting for someone to dare disobey them. A strong mix of hatred and courage filled my lungs. I would disobey them. I would save this City.
... it would make this worth it.

"We need to go outside," I sang as I entered the living room. With furrowed eyebrows, Lake merely looked up at me.
"No, we don't."
I rushed over to where he was sitting at. It was a blue desk with a white lamp. "Hear me out. We dress up differently. We change our looks using makeup. I could cut my hair, if you think that'd be necessary. If we're going to get anything done, though, we can't be afraid of broad daylight."
